Coaching Sessions in Worldcraft and Wordmancy | World Anvil

Coaching Sessions

Take your worldbuilding and story-telling to the next level!

Below are some ways your "worldcraft" and "wordmancy" will improve during a coaching call.

Worldbuilding

We will discuss whatever topic you wish to help improve your world. The following are some suggestions.

  • Magic Systems: Regardless of how "hard" or "soft" your magic system may be, it still needs to have rules. Our brainstorming conversation will help clarify how magic impacts your world.
  • Religion: The religions of your world may be as varied as those throughout Earth's history. By reviewing the religious practices and the faith traditions held by your characters, you will have a better understanding how these will have a major impact on the world. Or how they are completely ignored and incuring the gods' wrath.
  • Science: The scientific advancements of your world may be a catalyst for many adventures within your world. How these advancements interact or replace magic or faith is an excellent source of conflict. This conflict could spark wars between civiliations, antagonism between organizations, and feuds between individuals.
  • Governments: From tyranny to democracy and capitals to villages, we'll review the scope of goverments in your world. How will they impact your adventure or your story?
  • Organizations: There is more to a world than the government. Whether it's guilds for craftsmen or theives, there will always be groups who work together to support or destroy civilization.
  • Maps: How well does your world follow sound geological principles? This review would include review if ecosystems, mountains, waterways, and settlements.
  • Hooks: Conflict drives adventure and story. Are there enough conflict hooks found where the eddges of governments, organizations, magic, religion, and science meet? Finding these macro-conflicts will fuel many adventure campaigns and book series.

Story Building

Writing books may seem daunting. There are many excellent resources out there, but how do they apply to your fiction? These coaching sessions will help improve your stories. The following are recommended topics.

  • Characters: A detailed description of your characters, their motivations, their history, their depth, etc. The more you know about characters, the better your reader will know them.
  • Conflicts: A review of the conflicts that will drive each of the plots in your story. This includes comflicts over the whole book, within each scene, and between the characters.
  • Plots/Subplots/Outlines: A discussion about your existing outline and how to build it out to ensure character growth, exciting plots, and avoiding the "mushy middle."
