Religion in the Eyes of the 7 Kingdoms

Before the days of the banishment of the gods, it was the norm for people of a specific kingdom to follow their designated god or goddess, in fact, it was more uncommon for the main gods to not be worshiped. Each kingdom during this time was led by a "religious champion" who delivered the respective gods will when they weren't around to do so. This also meant they handled the domestic, and smaller-scale tasks. These rulings were often left to the discretion of the religious champion, however, the diety would on occasion step in to oversee or advise in the process. On larger matters, however, such as the advancement of technology or magic, or in the management of the military or global affairs, the god or goddess would take the reigns and often walk among the people to lead them in person.   Temples dedicated to each deity were places of worship and also where the link between mortals and the gods was strongest. (TENTATIVE)   In order for gods to keep control over the mortal world, the (____) link must be maintained. In the begining, this link was established by the gods and was maintained by each god's grand temple which was built at the location of the link. This link needed an incredible amount of magical energy to be created, and an even greater amount was needed to break it (This is why it was so hard for Reqir to sever the connection).   These 7 links are what held the mortal world to the (Celestial? Something) realm above, and when one was broken, the remaining 6 weren't able to hold the weight and were promptly snapped meaning the 7 were no longer able to interact with the mortal world in any way. Demi gods, however, don't abide by these rules. Being born of both immortal and mortal blood, they have the gift of a domain and can, therefore, bestow the gift onto mortals, and additionally can live forever. They don't, however, have the ability to travel between the mortal world and the (Whatever) realm and are therefore confined to the mortal plane. This means that when the connection was snapped, the 7 disappeared, but the 24 known demigods remained.   Modern relations with demigods: Some cults and extreme religious groups view preaching to demigods to be a sin and a betrayal of the 7.   Many towns champion a demigod and praise them loud and proud.   No country officially endorses one demigod or another but accepts the powers that each bring and allow for smaller minor monisteries to be built for them.
