Magic

Magic in the World of Zevian is a type of dormant energy in everyone and everything. It weaves through the fabric of space and reality connecting everything in this world into one through a series of nodes and highways of energy connecting them. A magic-user manipulates the reality we live by interacting with these nodes in different ways to draw energy from different places. At the beginning of the mortal races, there was no way to interact with this dormant energy, only the gods held this power. Eventually, they shared their gift with mortals and showed them the ways to harness this power for themselves. Chaos soon spread throughout the land eventually causing the gods to step back in and restrict the power they had gifted. They allowed only those marked by a divine being at birth (those being the 7 as well as any deemed worthy by any of the 24 minor gods) the potential to harness the power to harness magical energy. But even then, a certain level of understanding and ability was still required to control the gift.   Years in the future the number of magic users dropped dramatically. Only 1 in about 500 were even given the potential to wield the power of magic and even then, not all of them succeded or even pursued the gift. After the great technological booms and integration of magically enhanced tools of the 1500s-1600s, a breakthrough finally appeared out of Tumpal. The tool was to be worn as an exoskeleton of the user's hand and allowed a connection between the user and the magical properties of any object or material. In order to do anything useful with it, however, the wearer must have complete knowledge of the makeup of any material being affected or process being performed, both magically and scientifically. This is because the wearer is directly instructing the energy how to perform on a much more presise but difficult to control scale than the node setup of those marked.   Even with this advancement in technology, a divide between pure beings, who could naturally harness magic, and those who could not. Early on, magic users were seen as freaks and cast out from normal society. This sparked a new age of evil in which many magic users sought out revenge and took aim at those who cast them out.   People often say that the rendition of the magical energy running through a living thing is the incarnation of their soul and without that, life cannot happen (even if a nonmagic user).       Alternate Names: I want to have an alternate name for magic in this world (not just generic "magic." think force from star wars. Makes it more mystical.) -Sihrili -Aljima -Ajhima -Zau -Vian -Strega -The Resonance   Earth Surfing Carriages   This magic system is difficult to learn and is therefore very common for people to specialize in specific areas of magic. Specializations: -Earth -Water -Electricity -Fire/explosions -Temporal -Spacial -Voidal (Originating from the void, not known to people of zevian, but does exist) -Metals/Technology -Biological   RULES AND LIMITATIONS FOR THE GIFT: -Must have been marked by a god or goddess, or by an eternal AND still bear the mark. If the mark fades the power fades with it. -With the mark, this enables a mortal to look beyond the surface of the world and see the strings of magic running through the world. With practice, one can learn how to push and pull these strings to cause different effects. -There are different types of strands of magic that react differently to different situations that the magic-user puts on it. By connecting strings and drawing power from other places, anything from a minor healing spell to a catastrophic explosion can be forced. -This magic system very much follows the rules of "you cannot create from nothing." much more about manipulating the world around you. These lines will blur a bit with temporal, spacial and voidal magics. -These actions are not without consequence. Through experimentation, people have learned some magic can be deadly to the user and dangerous to attempt to wield. This is why it has been of utmost importance for those capable of learning to be taught the ways to use magic safely. -In addition to deadly consequences, this power also does have a limit that is different per person which can in extreme cases be equally deadly. As a user uses their magic, their attraction to these magical forces degrades at a rate dependant on the strain of the magic. -Could it be based on your electrolytes? Just your body's ability to produce external charge? This would allow for people to replenish them easily, but get super sick/unwell if overused. -After losing connectivity, it can be dangerous to continuously keep trying to connect. Forcing a connection can at times break down what is for lack of a better term a "firewall" that keeps the user from taking on too much power at once. This sudden influx of power is most certainly deadly.   RULES LIMITATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT THE GIFT: -People without the help of the gift don't have the 6h sense for sensing/seeing the vast network of magical energy that travels through the world, and can't inherently interact with it. With the creation of magitech however, the wearer is then able to interact with the network, although blindly. This has the potential to be extremely dangerous, however, it is mostly harmless and as nothing is it is extremely unlikely for anything to happen at all. -To effectively use this magic, one must directly will the chemical, physical, or biological processes to happen, granted the correct materials are present and able. In most cases, this takes years upon years of study to not only understand the processes that are taking place but also how to properly use the equipment and make the environment what you want. -Because of these constraints, younger mages or aspiring mages normally don't have the capabilities to use this. -Also due to how this type of magic works, the specialties are somewhat more limited. Earthen magic, for example, is really impossible to resolve scientifically but can be imitated with expertise in air magic in certain cases. For this same reason, fire magic and air magic are the most common forms for nonnatural mages to use. -Another side to this is that these magic users do not rely on their conductivity to the network to use magic and therefore could theoretically control it forever without losing connection. There is a type of rejection that comes into play, however. As these users do not bear the mark of the gods, the network will eventually "reject" their presence which makes itself apparent through a series of painful hemorrhages. -This topic is under heavy study currently in the timeline, as the first generation of these mages is out and about right now. Long term effects are possibly deadly, or alternatively, just a permanent kick out of the system.     Biological Magic: -This form of magic is much more dangerous and volatile to perform meaning it is much more likely to reflect back to the user. It involves altering the state whether it be spacial or temporal of a living object. -Unable to be performed using magitech as the true scientific methods to this are unknown. -The simplest form of this is plant magic. Allows the user to manipulate plants to grow at a much faster pace than normal and be manipulated to the user's whim. -Some users of this type of magic, though there aren't many, have experimented with altering their physical forms with some successes and some gruesome failures. -In theory, some believe this type of magic could be used to hijack a human soul and basically control them at least physically while isolating the mind and spirit, keeping them hostage in a way. This has never been done before and research on the topic has formally been outlawed by all 7 kingdoms even testing on animals. -Some users of this type of magic are known to carry packets of seeds with them as so they can never be ambushed without anything around them to use. -Can be devastating aggressive magic, but also known for being defensively attuned as well with the ability to create barriers or immobilize enemies.   Temporal Magic: Theoretical type of magic that would allow the user to affect the way we feel time, at least in a small area. The restriction, however, is that you would only be able to go back since the method would simply be to undo what has been done, through rearranging the strings of magic in an area back to their original state. Freezing time would also be possible and allow the user or selected areas inside the spell's area of effect to move around in an area where time is not affected. Those not affected by the spell, but still inside the zone still age and experience time normally. Again, a theoretical type of magic and hasn't been put into practice yet.   Spacial Magic: Advanced form of magic that involves manipulating space. this could be anything from warping a small object to you, to opening gates that connect to different parts of the world, or potentially the universe. these are the common uses for spacial magic, however, using it to condense matter in an area and form a temporary primordial black hole. A very useful tool for espionage though defenses against it can be made with different types of barriers that prevent sightlines. The way spacial magic is performed involves navigating the strings to an object or location, then briefly tensing the magical ties between the two spaces. Even across great distances where getting the two to meet directly is impossible, a magical reaction still occurs when the two locations are simultaneously put under intense pressure. This causes a magically infused "wormhole" like structures to appear on each end. This allows objects and people to cross through as long as the portal is left open. The reason for this reaction is still unknown, but it is so far harmless to humans and objects that pass through it. Also used for many common needs such as communication. While it would be very energy inefficient for transporting objects and people on a regular basis, transporting sounds is much less strenuous. This was done by a person specialized in spacial comms transport and it was common for most towns to have at least one of these magic users. Since it was so specialized to those specific types of magic users, it was a profitable business. This carried on until 1812 when engineers created a mechanical equivalent that could send sound down the magical tethers just as a human would. This tech was improved upon until it eventually became the norm and human comms agents were mostly phased out.   Fire:   Water:   Air:   Earth:   Electrical:   Voidal:
