Anointed

The Anointed is a term for describing a sub-group of a temple's congregation. Consisting of both ordained and lay people, these are the researchers, astrologers, herbalists and other scholarly types that make up part of a cult's following.
Probably the most famous type of Anointed is that of the Ravenwing, itinerant healers and surgeons who travel about Laralla and Vorxiya as humble pilgrims. They tend to the sick and injured where they find them, with no expectation of payment or compensation. The Ravenwing also provide the members of the Executioners Brotherhood.
Greenmays tend to the farms and fields of the settlements, while Paikti travel from village to village bringing foretellings and installing protective hexes.
An Anointed will typically have magical powers, though most do not deal with Demons, taking power instead from flame, water and blood.
The Anointed are protected under a taboo similar to that of the Revelators, though not as universally subscribed, as some settlements will have patron deities incompatible with those of the Anointed.
Anointed are known for their asceticism, humility and an uncanny ability to "read" or understand people. Lords and nobles will work hard to attract wise and sagacious Anointed to their lands.
