World of the Mundane and the Veil

There's a lot more to the world than meets the eye. Even when lots of the unseen has been documented in the ages past, called mere stories and folklore rather than accounts of things and beings that happened and existed.   While the world superficially looks and functions the same as the contemporary world, it is covered in an invisible Veil. This Veil is a barrier between the everyday world, the Mundane, and the myriad worlds beyond it. The denizens from the worlds beyond quite often cross over to the Mundane. In the ages, most if not all people were able to see these visitors from beyond. These visitors would often cause in their wake all sort of supernatural phenomena and their appearance would leave an impression on the people who witnessed the events. As a way to pass on the knowledge born from these encounters, people turned to the tradition of storytelling, weaving stories of creatures and gods and myth.   As peoples have moved and developed and civilizations have risen and fallen, decreasing belief in the stories past and increasing reliance on science, people have lost their connection to the Veil, making visitors effectively invisible to them. While most people cannot see the visitors, they have not vanished. They are still there, some benevolent, some malevolent.
