World of the Clay People

This world is inhabited by three sentient races: a dominant race of Clay People, crafted by a now extinct ancient race, a visiting race of eusocial squid aliens from another world, and the magical Fae, a race of supernatural beings not bound to the laws of physics. The Fae are organized in seven Courts and have motivations very much unlike those of the earthly races, and are variously described as whimsical, insane or even cruel. Ruling over this world are the unknowable Eldritch Glitch beings, ancient beings to whom the laws of physics are mere suggestions. Both the clay people and the squid aliens can become Witches and acquire magical powers by striking a deal either with the Fae or the Eldritch Glitches, but such a deal is usually not in the Witch's favour.
