The Outpost
In a small system of caverns hundreds of feet down within the Abyss along the Path of Iron, the Black Spiral Dancers of Vancouver have created a small research facility and Umbral military outpost. Protected primarily by its remoteness and proximity to roaming packs of scrags and bane serpents, the path to get there is deadly. A moonbridge may be taken to the lip of the Abyss, but none will agree to go down further.
The Black Spiral Dancers of Vancouver have been stealing memories of ancient wyrm spirits that did not become corrupt, in hopes to unlock secrets of corrupting "the pure". There are only five acolytes at The Outpost in regular deployment, but there are small supply and intel shipments, so there is always a chance of a messenger (BSD or spirit). The Outpost has been in use for about 20 years and smells the part. The entrance is marked by a simple spiral carved into the rock above it, easily missed by those not searching. Within the cavern system, there are a few vaulted rooms: an anteroom, quarters, and a small research library.
Getting Down
- Finding the facility requires five successful tests of Perception + Primal Urge (limit Enigmas), difficulty 8 (difficulty 6 if they have a specific scent to go on).
- Each level (each test) down the walls of the Abyss, chance to encounter a roaming pack of scrags (2-12), one or two bane serpents, or some other type of deranged Wyrm creature that will attack on site. (10% chance bane, 5% two banes, 10% five scrags, 5% two Black Spiral Dancer Warriors)
- If climbing, Dex + Athletics diff 7 to safely descend. If climbing with ropes and going carefully, a fall is not deadly, but slows down party.
