Sprite Species in The World of Cartyrion | World Anvil

Sprite

Sprites are a Nymph subspecies. They are among the most common types of nymph that can be encountered almost anywhere on the surface of Cartyrion, though their tiny size and dragonfly wings often results in their being mistaken for large flying insects. They are often encountered in the company of their larger 'cousins', the Pixies.

Sprites have an innate tendency to detect magical energy, and are often drawn to anything emanating such energy. They have the ability to manipulate the Six Energies to some degree, using these abilities from time to time to brighten up otherwise drab surroundings with temporary sprays of color or sparkling lights.

Sprites have a tendency to attach themselves to a particular location or object, or sometimes another creature which they will then "tend to". This might be a small patch of wildflowers or one particular shrub growing in a garden or in the wild, which they will prune, pollinate, and otherwise nurture. On some occasions, their object of focus may be a member of the Folk - usually a child, perhaps of a farmer - whom they will entertain with their simple magical abilities. Regardless of what their chosen focus is, the sprite will vigorously defend its chosen focus if danger threatens it.

Sprites that were corrupted into Gremlins are now Jinkins.
