Draxie Species in The World of Cartyrion | World Anvil

Draxie

Draxies are a Nymph subspecies found in mountainous regions of Cartyrion. Sages claim their proper name is actually "Mixie", but over the years, the dragon-like features and abilities they possess have caused the "Dragon Pixie" portmanteau to become their most common name. These resemblances are not due to any relationship to dragons or the Dragonar deities; Draxies were Awakened by Berdea of the Alevar just as all other Nymphs.

Their appearance is somewhat reminiscent of dragon-kin. Their wings are dragonlike in appearance, and their skin resembles very fine scales that reflect a rainbow of hues depending on how light strikes it. Their tiny size is similar to that of their forest Pixie cousins.

Draxies also have a unique - and dragon-like - method of employing the Pixie Dust that their nymph cousins use to control aggressive creatures and play jokes upon unsuspecting travelers through their domains. Instead of throwing the dust, Draxies breathe it out in clouds, much like the breath weapons of dragons. These Draxie dust emanations can have a range of effects upon those engulfed in the clouds.

These Mountain Pixies are perhaps the biggest pranksters among all the Nymphs - rivaling even Leprechauns in their love of playing practical jokes upon unsuspecting passers-by. Sometimes these pranks simply involve using their Pixie Dragon Breath upon some unsuspecting traveler; other times they will spend months or even years planning "the perfect prank" to play upon another nymph, or perhaps one of the Folk that has taken up residence in or near their domain.

Draxies have been known to form close personal bonds with particular creatures or Folk that live within their domains. These bonds go beyond simple friendship; if a Draxie has "chosen" someone or something to bond with, it will vigorously aid and defend that creature in any way possible. Such bonds do not prevent the Draxie from choosing their "bondmate" as the target of a prank, however.
