Tears of the Goddess

She didn't flee, she was driven out by the savageness of the people. My sister, chased from her home by packs of wolves, all for a mistake. I have consulted with Elysian, he says the hunt will be called off. I had to leave the walls of Bismuthforge today as well. My greif consumed me and I wept for the loss of my sister. - Goddess of Light

Though the day of ascension marked the existence of beings with effectively god-like power, it also saw the loss of a number of people.

Summary

After the events of the Ascension and the foolish attempt of the vengeful noble families to kill a god, the Goddess of Light fled the city walls of Bismuthforge and abandoned her appointed guards. Her grief was over whelming and she could not stand the sight of the city around her. Disguised as a commoner she traveled from the city using the cheapest means possible. She worked alongside anyone and did her best to help where she could, but all the while she wept tearless cries. Around her others wept as well, mourning the loss of so many people. Theirs were tearless cries as well. Everywhere she went she would weep with the common and privileged alike, and not a single tear would fall where she went. She eventually stopped on a cliff side and collapsed one last time. Here she wept. Tears poured forth in such a wave that the world itself seemed to be crying alongside. The clouds formed a storm above her and shared her pain. The ground sank beneath the grief of an empire. Her sister was dead to her home. She was a Goddess, but even a Goddesses power can only do so much. Her grief turned to anger, and anger to rage. The ground cracked and split before her and the cliff face fell. She was a Goddess, but unless she enforced her will upon others she would find no likely solution to changing her peoples mind. They were angry, and their anger made their actions simple. They didn't think of things beyond their own selfish desires. She refused to accept it. She refused to accept her peoples ignorance as law and vowed to make sure the people of the empire learned and understood the truth. She would return and assist in leading her people for as long as her divinity allowed. She would teach the masses of fools truth and compassion, and she would do so with those exact ideals. She was a Goddess now, and with that came power and responsibility. Creation had chosen her, and she would see to it that the effort was not in vain. When she rose, determination alighting a new and brilliant forge within, she saw the result of her actions. Where the Goddess of Light had been was now a single pillar of land surrounded by a small body of water. A small forest had sprung from around the edges and the broken cliff face created a waterfall into the the valley. She was in awe. Her emotions had been subconscious, but her power had been present. The Goddess decided that she liked the small pool and waterfall, and quickly erected a comfortable spot to sit and stare out over the falls, before flying away towards the walls of Bismuthforge once more.

Historical Basis

The Goddess of Light, The Goddess of Death, and the God(dess) of Creation where and are still very relevant even today. The Goddess of Death was driven out into the darkness of the Wilds, where some claim she is amassing an army of horror to retake her home, and the Goddess of Light ascended to her realm to watch over all. Records kept from the time of Ascension have been mostly lost due to poor storage, but a occasional bits from explorations after the Ascension speak of a spot atop a cliff with the most beautiful view and pool they had ever seen. Bits of strange trees have been returned, later discovered to be infused with energy and leading some to believe that the area may be a massive site of infused materials. This led a number of adventurers and explorers to try their hands at finding the hidden oasis. None have succeeded, few have returned.

Spread

The Legend of the Goddesses Tears was only shared with a select few among the Churches ranks, and they were sworn to secrecy at the time. After the Goddess left to watch over all of her peoples from above the story was told and spread widely. It showed a more mortal side and was meant to remind the people of the Goddess' Ascension as a time of strange things happening.

Variations & Mutation

Each Kingdom within the Empire claims that the Goddess created the waterfall and pool on their lands.
