Taking a break from the Temple Report

General Summary

Fullfalling 7th

After a few days of resting and relaxing, Landryn calls the companions together to make some decisions. He expresses that he's unsure that the Venatore will be able to fulfill their leadership roles when they spend so much time in the field "hunting". He brings the entire group through the various leadership roles and asks for decisions to be made.   While going through the various duties, the following changes were made. Balan stepped down as general (Military Council) and appointed his squire Buruna in his place. Adrea stepped down as High Priest, but Virion knew of an elven druid of the Old Faith to fill that position. Elyot stepped down as magister and the artificer Lerikan stepped into that role. Brannon knew of an old friend Lucca, who would be just right for the role of Marshal. Adrea had an old acquaintance, Fulton Silk to be the spymaster (Minister of Information), and Abebane called upon an old family friend, Allamir Kelleth to take the role of Warden.   Landryn had couriers on hand the next day to send invitations to the new companions, who would hopefully be in place before decisions needed to be made in the month of Wanesun.   A few days later, after recovering from his captivity. The river smuggler Gavin addresses the Gnarled Council. He explained that he was a river smuggler operating out of Dornath. He made the bad mistake of making a pass at Dala, the barmaid of the Riverside Hostel, owned by Dirk Rennis. Well, Dirk always had 10-20 men hanging around and willing to listen to him. A group of those men cornered Gavin, and he woke up paralyzed, with a ghoul salivating while stripping off his clothing before he was thrown into the cell in the Temple of Chaos dungeons.   He estimates that there are always 10-20 cultists from the Temple of Chaos in Dornath, though rarely there are more. At the Boatman's Tavern, the captain of the river pirates, Tolubb, typically has 20-30 seasoned pirates on hand, even though the river pirate base is farther upstream, though Gavin confessed he has never been to it. Then there are the Kearnes, the appointed lords of Dornath. There aren't that many Kearnes left, the Lord-Mayor, his daughter the jailor, and a few other family members. Each month, they disappear to the old caves northeast of Dornath with 10-20 of their own cultists, though gods know who or what they worship in those ceremonies. Almost all the time, after those nights, a traveler or someone from the jail is reported missing.   The next few weeks passed more or less uneventfully, the Venatore healed and practiced while the council headed to the Dymrak Forest Valley to clear it of threats in order to expand into that region. On Fullfalling 26th, the Venatore headed back to the Temple. In the outer guard post, they found a black rose sitting on the main dining table, no note or any indication of how it got there. Spending the night in the tower, they headed back into the dungeons the following morning.

Fullfalling 27th

Though the rose was disconcerting, he night passed uneventfully. In the morning, they made their way back into the dungeon. Deciding this time to check on the rooms with that big quadruple crossbow. Both the gnoll room and the Black Earth Guard room had been cleared of the dead, and whatever treasures they might have had. Balan reminded the Venatore that he had heard guards to the northeast of the Black Earth Guard post. By that time, they had made enough noise that the guards in the northern chamber moved to intercept them. More than a half-dozen regular guards were backed up by four more Black Earth Guards. Although the Venatore took some lumps, the guards were no match for them.
Looking through the guardpost for clues, the party headed west from there, a corridor heading south led back to the hallway filled with skeletons, which they decided to engage. Adrea took point, defending herself from attacks as Balan struck out with his guan dao from behind. It proved an effective strategy, the gnoll and human skeletons were barely able to strike Adrea as they kept getting cleaved from Balan. However, skeletons are not completely mindless, and a group of them soon rounded the corner from another corridor to the west. Elyot conjured a flaming sphere to clear the mess of them as Crasokk and Virion engaged them.
Soon, bones littered the floor of both hallways. The party paused to catch their breath.
