Kitchen Chaos Report

General Summary

Wanesun 14th

And the Chaos Started.   The bugbear that Rostam was closing on shouted "Intruders!" in Beastcant. Soon more bugbears emerged from the room to the west. Adrea and Balan charged in, but Rostam stood toe-to-toe with two bugbears, filling the passage south. While Adrea tried her best to get the bugbears to focus on her, Rostam fell to the bugbears' morningstars.   Adrea kept to the defensive line with Balan behind her swiping at the bugbears over her shoulder. Crasokk fired arrows into the fray to take down these well-trained bugbears, while Elyot scrambled their minds with her mind sliver. Rudy was eventually able to reach Rostam's body and drag it to a location safe enough to administer a healing potion.   As the chaos continued, the rageborn assassin Brunk from the previous room managed to knock some rubble aside as he stealthily tried to move into an advantageous position to attack the companions. Revealed, he became the target of Crasokk and Elyot before fleeing to the northern corridor, where the bandit chiefs had fled.   As Adrea and Balan engaged the bugbear marauders, they began to hear sounds of goblin voices from the western room. Pressing their advantage, they saw a kitchen down the corridor and four goblin slaves wielding meat cleavers. The goblins chose to use the companions' attack to try and get away, in turn each darted at a bugbear and tried to chop it, then used their cunning to flee before the bugbear could strike back.   At this point, Adrea and Balan with the help of the ranged attacks from behind had defeated two of the bugbears, while two more stayed to the south and out of Adrea's spirit guardians. The two other bugbears to the west, in the kitchens, tried to aid the fight against the companions, however, they became so outraged at the goblin slaves that they broke off from Adrea and Balan to try and kill the goblins.   In the meantime, the rageborn assassin apparently circled around and emerged from another northern corridor. Taking a crossbow dart from the back of his shield, he managed to surprise Elyot and struck true with the poisoned crossbow bolt. Elyot immediately dropped. Crasokk immediately fired at the assassin. As he tried to retreat down the corridor, Rudy surprisingly closed the distance with her cat-like reflexes and speed. Already injured, the rageborn assassin Brunk was slain before escaping.   Meanwhile, the bugbears engaged with Adrea and Balan fell, and they moved into the kitchen to deal with the last two. Two of the four goblin slaves were unable to get far enough away from the bugbears and were slaughtered by their captors before the companions were able to kill the last of the bugbear marauders. As they entered the kitchen, Adrea instructed her spirit guardians not to attack the goblins. When the last bugbear fell, the goblins expressed their thanks, and vowed to make sure that the nearby goblin tribes would never support the temple.   Before leaving, the goblins told the companions that the elemental temples had cells guarded by greater temple guards at the eastern end of the great hall, and that there were some "pretty elves" imprisoned there.   Gravely wounded, two of their members nearly dying, the Venatore moved the bugbear corpses into the kitchens and gathered the rest of the dead into the chambers of the guards. One bandit chieftain had survived, knocked unconscious in the battle and kept as a prisoner, but the rest of the opposition had been defeated, permanently.   It took the Venatore a few hours to scour through the dead guardsmen and their leaders, (the rageborn Brunk and the human mastermind Feldrin) and the inhabited rooms searching for clues and treasures. In that time, the bandit chief awoke. He explained that the temple invited them all here to discuss partnerships. He seemed very sure, based on the companions' intervention, that the temple wasn't the organization to place their bets on. If any of the other chiefs made it out, he would bet that they also didn't see the temple as the winner in the area. He promised that, if released, he'd spread word to the other bandit gangs in the area, depriving the temple of reinforcements. Heavily scrutinized by the companions, his words rang true, and he was released. Not before Crasokk let him know that he knew of his gang, and their location, and there might be hell to pay if he reneged.   The Venatore then settled down for a much-needed rest.
