Waiting to search the rooms, they party chose to open the northern door, and a long hallway were smashed stands and display cases hailing back to when this may have been a trophy room. Two more ghasts dwelt within and were quickly eliminated.   As the party was searching the trophy room, Balan brushed up against a shield on the wall covered with mold. The mold fell away easily, revealing a shimmering shield looking almost like new. The ghasts each wore some jewelry. The chest in the other ghast room was filled with silver coins and a scrollcase containing a scroll of protection. Mixed in with the coins was a cameo coat of arms, the pegasus on red and gold, symbol of the Feryth Aran.   The only other noteworthy things from the ghoul rooms were a bag filled with clothing for over a dozen men and women, and an ivory statue of a demon cavorting with a maiden.   In the first ghoul room, they decided to see what was behind the western door and found a corridor heading north, after a few turns, it opened up into a large ruined dining hall. All signs pointed to a bloody battle having taken place here years ago. A thorough search turned up a few serviceable weapons.   The dining hall had three exits, they entered from the south, and the eastern exit looked to lead back to the main corridor. Heading to the northern exit, Adrea spied a huge snake, easily twenty-feet long with fangs dripping poison lounging in a kitchen area. Firing from the dining hall, the snake quickly slithered up to Adrea and Balan, who had blocked the passage. Ready for the monstrous creature they hacked at it as it approached, the other firing magic and missiles from behind the line.
Once the snake was defeated, they entered and searched the kitchen, finding an ogres body with a large pouch of coins and a shortsword which looked like a dagger in its hands. The exit to the east led into the main corridor. They decided to take the main corridor south, passing a doorway and another eastern corridor with several turns before getting back to the original four-way intersection.   Finally they decided to see what was behind the door with the sobbing, and opened it to find ten naked humans. The merchants and the commoners were responsible for the crying, but there were also some men with graver looks on their faces. One of those men approached. Calling himself Gavin, he told a story of being at Dornath and making a pass at Dara, the serving girl at the Riverside Hostel. Unfortunately for Gavin, Dara's lover Dirk Rennis, who was the owner and barkeep, had a few of "his men" beat Gavin senseless. He woke up here in the dungeons. Gavin agreed to tell the companions everything he knows about Dornath in exchange for safety. Four of the other men were men-at-arms. Handing out the serviceable weapons they had recovered, along with the bag of clothing. The companions asked them to wait for their return.   Heading east, past the four-way intersection and the gnoll rooms they discovered another southern corridor, with a pungent odor. Virion quietly slipped down the passage and discovered a large trash heap to the east, teaming with swarms of rats. Seeing nothing to be gained, they ignored the trash heap and continued east.   There they came upon the northern passage that had almost killed them the day before. To the north, the room where Balan encountered the Black Earth Guards had been cleared. The gnoll corpses had been removed from the gnoll room, though the quadruple mounted heavy crossbow still pointed down the corridor.   Heading through the gnoll berserker's L-shaped room, they opened the next door and surprised a large ogre chieftain. Before the ogre was able to respond, Balan, Virion, and Adrea swarmed him and hit him with everything they had while Crasokk and Elyot fired spell and arrow against it. The ogre lay dead before being able to take a swing.
The ogre chieftains's den had a door heading west. Peering out of that door, they saw a twenty-foot- corridor heading north. A similar door was directly across from the, but to the north the corridor emptied out into a twenty-foot wide east-west corridor filled with skeletal remains. Seeing some of these remains begin to rise, they shut the door and headed back.   They went back and retrieved the captives from the ghoul larder and led them out to the guard tower. There they discussed what to do next. Having spent three days of almost constant combat, and with a group of rescued captives, the companions decided they needed to head back to the outpost. The men-at-arms offered to stand guard while the companions took the former commander's room and the merchants and laborers took the other bunkroom.

The next morning they made the long journey back through Frogger's Moor. Arriving at the outpost towards the end of the day, they set up the captives in the bunkhouse and the two groups spent the night in the great hall telling the others of their exploits.   Meeting the Grand Duke's representative for the first time, Landryn proposed several toasts to "The Venatore". Brannon explained that it was the name he was using for the adventuring companions, and that it meant "The Hunters" in the dialect of Valens. It would be a few weeks before the Venatore recovered enough to strike out again.
