Resting in the secret tunnel underneath the tower wasn't as comfortable as the main level, but it was much safer. After a fitful night's sleep, filled with bad dreams bordering on nightmares. They awoke and made their way back into the temple dungeon.   Using the same staircase as before, the headed north at the first intersection. At a second four way intersection, they sent Virion ahead to scout the two doors to their west, and one door on the north wall to their east. Listening at the western door on the south wall, which was barred from the outside, Virion heard quiet sounds, some of which sounded like sobbing, while at the door at the end of the western corridor Virion heard nothing. Deciding that the eastern corridor held more of a threat, they moved up to the door on the north wall. Here Virion heard bestial sounds, similar to the gnolls they fought the day before.   Opening the door, they spied a 20-foot-square guard post, manned by four gnolls. Balan and Adrea blocked the doorway as three of the gnolls charged them. The fourth gnoll headed to a door on the east wall. After dropping a gnoll blocking the door, Virion headed into the guard room leaving Balan and Adrea holding the door. Then the fourth gnoll returned, and more gnolls came around the corner in the eastern corridor.   Caught from behind, Elyot misty stepped into the guard room, almost cleared of gnolls as Crasokk intercepted the group trying to encircle the party. At this point however, the gnolls were no longer much of a threat to the experienced party.
The room to the northeast of the guard chamber contained bedding, bottles and casks and seemed to be one of the chambers the gnolls slept in. A door was in the north wall, and the chamber was opened to the east, with a corridor heading southeast. A quick look showed that the corridor met up with the one they just left. Behind the north door, they heard more sound of gnolls, and deeper voices.   Opening the door, they were confronted with four more gnolls, aided by two hobgoblins. Though these hobgoblins were far more experienced than typical, they made short work of them as well. With no other doors, they spent some time searching the rooms, finding a pouch of gold hidden in the dead coals of a brazier. They pulled all of the bodies into the guard room and Elyot used her cantrips to hide all other signs to the combat.   Heading back to the western corridor, they bypassed the door with the weeping and moved directly to the western door. It opened into a shrine with a large bas-relief of a mushroom-like creature with a human, feminine face. The walls of the chamber painted with fading scenes of humanoids and demons cavorting.
Balan's Interpretation
The Face   Six ghouls inhabited the area and battle was joined. Balan was almost paralyzed by the ghouls before the party gained the upper hand. Then one of the ghouls opened a door to the north, inhabited by another six ghouls. Yet the party pressed ahead and the ghouls fell quickly. The second room may once have been a conference room, and had yet another door on its north wall. The stench coming from behind the door was overpowering, and opening that door, they learned why. Two ghasts quickly attacked, and were as quickly defeated.
They party stopped to gather their strength. They needed to search the three rooms. Two exits beckoned, a doorway on the eastern wall of the shrine room, and a north door in a 10-wide northern alcove in the ghast chamber.
