Peda River

This small river’s origins lie in deep pools at the feet of the Aratok Mountains. Some claim that old goblin warrens flooded long ago, giving life to the river. Others that it was Tefnut herself who carved the pools of its origin, but whatever the case, eight small feeder streams tumble down from the western escarpments of the Aratok in waterfalls both large and small before they crash into the Pedo and feed her torrent. These streams and falls give the river increased strength and speed, pushing it westward toward the Foulwooth Wood. It is a violent stream in most of its course, flooding in the spring and early summer such that it is dangerous to cross or navigate.   Two bridges cross the Peda, the 8 Falls Bridge at the foot of the mountains, and the Kevro Bridge just above the confluence of the Peda and Drunberry Rivers. The latter is an ancient bridge, built by the dwarves long, long ago and bound with rune magics to protect it from the weather, war, and time. The Empress’ knights’ man both bridges, dwelling in mighty barbicans on the southern bank of the river.   The Peda serves as the northern boundary of the lands of Ascalon.
