Personal history
Poison was adopted into the cult at 9 years old and he had already been a pickpocket living on the streets for several years before that. He thinks the Berners are weird as hell and doesn’t buy into the religion thing at all, but likes that he’s pretty much free to do whatever he wants and doesn't have to eat out of the garbage. He plans to leave when he gets bored with all this and he has a vague idea about stealing all their stuff when he goes, but wouldn't actually do that. In fact, he's been thinking about leaving less and less the longer he sticks around.
Poison’s original name is Tommy, named after his father. But when the Berners asked him what he wanted to be called, he sarcastically said “Poison Vortex II.” That became his name and, since he has always kinda hated his name and hated his parents in general, he just kept the name. It’s also kind of a way to keep a barrier of separation between himself and the group, though he’s been thinking more about picking something more normal lately.

Poison can barely read, and he's too ashamed to tell anyone about it, especially Hedgehog. Hedgehog suspects this to be the case, but the one time she hinted that she would be willing to teach him, he just blushed, sputter, and then ran out of the room. Hedgehog does not understand this reaction, but assumes that she hurt his pride. Meanwhile, Dr. Chaos has made sure to drag Poison in whenever Hedgehog gets going on one of her book rants so he gets some knowledge at least.
Mental Trauma
Poison accidentally killed his uncle. His parents had left him with his uncle and said they were looking for work, but then they skipped town and left behind a mountain of debt. His uncle was going to sell him off to a workhouse to pay off the debts, Poison was running from his uncle through an alley and pulled a trash can down behind him. His uncle tripped on the trash can and hit his head on the cobblestones. Poison didn't check to make sure he was dead, but there was a lot of blood and his uncle wasn't moving when Poison left him and kept running.
Sometimes he sees his uncle's face in his nightmares.

Contacts & Relations
Poison would never agree that Dr. Chaos is the “leader,” of their group, though he would say that the other kids follow her around like sheep. Unlike him, who follows her around because he's bored. At least, that’s what he would say if anyone asks. In reality, he cares deeply about all his fellow kids. He admires how they look out for each other and is amazed that they have accepted him seamlessly into their group even though they’ve all known each other longer. He doesn’t quite understand how they can be so generous and unsuspicious, but he's grateful for it.
He identifies the most with Hedgehog and has a crush on her. He thinks she’s the smartest person he’s ever met and admires her insight into people. He rarely gives input into the group’s plans, but if Dr. Chaos and Hedgehog ever disagree, he always takes Hedgehog’s side.
He thinks Dr. Chaos is too impulsive (he’s seen plenty of kids like that get caught and put in jail or orphanages on the streets), but he admires her unwavering loyalty and her ability to accept anyone. He knows that their little gang wouldn't be nearly as tight knit without Dr. Chaos.
Though he mostly ignores Birb when others are looking, he would die for Birb just like the rest of the gang and has subtly favored him in various ways when no one’s looking. For example, when Birb couldn’t find Marmalade he “begrudgingly” helped the gang look for the cat, but then, when the rest of the kids had to go to bed when it got too dark, Poison stayed up all night, walking the woods until he found Marmalade under a bush with a thorn in his paw. He brought the cat back to camp and bandaged his paw to present the cat to Birb the next day. This was basically the day that Poison became an official and permanent member of the gang.
