Moorland Gnomes

A small folk, reaching usually no more than one and a half foot tall, they make up for their short stature with big ideas. The Gnomes of the Moorlands live in a rather inhospitable climate, but they have made the most of it, and live rather comfortable lives. They have had to embrace the ever changing nature of the Moorlands, and thus have developed a rather adaptable mindset and way of living.

Society

They live in large villages of about 200 Gnomes each, dotted about the Moorlands. Each village is usually specialised in some way, both in terms of resources and the skill sets of its inhabitants. Food and production materials are traded freely between villages, as the Moorland Gnomes have a rather communal society. They have no currency amongst themselves and instead have a barter system for those items which are not freely shared.

Appearance

Gnomes tend to take on the colours of their environment over time, whether this is beacuse they are particularly in tune with their habitat or as some kind of evolutionary camouflage is not really known. Moorland gnomes have earthy skin tones ranging from olive to dark brown Their hair has a much broader colour spectrum including purple and pale yellow, which is paired in their long drooping eyebrows.

Co-habitation

Moorland gnomes have formed a special relationship with the Peat Dragons that inhabit the moors and peat bogs with them. They co-exist happily side by side and work together to maintain the Moorlands and keep predators away. They have even learned to understand the basics of eachother's language, though neither has the anatomy to try and speak it.

Seasonal living

During the harsh winter months, when many of their villages are buried under snow for weeks on end, they move from their individual homes into more communal spaces, this has many practical as well as social benfits. The shared spaces are easier to keep warm, sharing of supplies is easier, no one gets cut off during blizzards, and group tasks can be accomplished far more simply.
