The Treasure of Sherwyn Leomer

The fabled treasure of Sherwyn Leomer is said to exist behind a great stone door, locked in an age long ago. The legends say the treasure is an artifact beyond comprehension of learned folk, a relic of Those Before, and may hold the secret to where The Before People went.   It is said that the treasure waits for whomsoever finds six keys that will unlock the great stone door, as well as finding the door itself, for what is known of the treasure exists only in writing. It is disputed as to whether the treasure, keys or door even exist, or were rather a metaphor for finding one's purpose.   The information regarding the keys is lacking, with translations ranging from the keys appearing as a large, bronze key, with large yet intricate metalwork, to a small, magical stone, emanating great power. It is one of the great mysteries scholars face, in decoding the ancient language of the Before People.

Summary

There exist six keys, that unlock a door, housing a mysterious treasure, locked away for millennia by a well-known yet poorly understood figure of the past. The treasure itself is unknown, the location is unknown, and the story of the treasure is often told in upper class households to compel children to aim high for themselves.

Historical Basis

Scholars have found numerous cave inscriptions telling of "Sherwyn Leomer", with what appear to be numbers and a shape aside them. Drawings found near the sites show a doorway, with six points emphasised. This has led to scholars theorising of a door, hidden away long ago, requiring six keys to open. Further conjecture has suggested that behind the door exists some form of treasure, something the Before People would seal away for safe-keeping.

Spread

It is mostly told to those of Higher Birth among the Moon-Folk, who emphasise family values, and provide much more support to children.

Cultural Reception

The Moon-folk rarely tell of the story, for they wish to keep it secret. Of those who are told outside the Clans, folk often wander for decades before giving up, and teach their children to resent the Moon-folk, for they perceive they have been tricked. For the Moon-folk, they find those who would leave their lives behind in search of a mythical door to be foolish, and worry not the ire of those outside their Clan.

In Literature

Many tales are told to children, in taverns and the like, that are reminiscent of the myth of Sherwyn's Door, often changing the name, number of keys and what is being guarded. The concept of seeking an unknown treasure is common in Moon-folk culture, more commonly as words of wisdom to avoid doing so.

In Art

The masterpiece "Door of Leomer", by Arwyll Llorn was inspired by the legend, and forms the basis of visualisation for the Door.
Sherwyn Leomer is one of the few names Scholars have uncovered about the Before People, from many excavations over centuries, and what little is known about her is widely disputed. There are those that insist she was a scholar of primeval arcane magic, while others claim she was a great warrior, a child prodigy of sword and bow. Evidence for both exists, however scholars cannot agree on which was her primary focus.
