Obsidiana Oil Rig
Large oil rig located near Isla Obsidiana owned by Liberty Oil Inc.
After the discovery of an untapped oil deposit north of the Mariana Islands the initially small exploratory rig has been steadily growing in size and significance. While already a very large facility the company plans to invest even further funds to almost double the size of the platform and the amount of workers hired.
The oil extraction is the main activity, however due to politics and PR pressures the rig has become the home of various research and nature conservation teams. Several Mariana Trench expeditions have been sponsored by Liberty Oil though there opinions are split how much of that was RND for deeper digs and how much genuine scientific interest and environmental concern.
Most of the workers live on the rig. There are few families here as the life is a harsh one, but otherwise the workforce is relatively diverse in gender, race and age. Shorter breaks and shopping trips are often spent on the Mariana Islands or the closer Isla Obsidiana. While the former has welcome the boost to its economy, the former has been a lot less welcoming. The Anka people reluctantly trade with the rig workers, while their representatives file petitions against the further development of the installation.
Due to the growth of the structure over time some parts had to be decommissioned and others require heavy repairs. The upcoming investment is not just meant to expand on the existing infrastructure but also help bring more cohesion to the whole installation. The damage to some of the underwater parts of the structure has been especially troublesome suggesting more turbulent waters than initial observations predicted, as well as the presence of large marine fauna.
The oil rig has its own helipad and a small boat repair station.

Architecture
The rig is mostly built using steel and concrete with wooden structures in some of the residential areas. Important buildings and storage facilities are all built from metal. Part of it is anchored in the shallower waters, but the expansion is towards the Mariana Trench and there the construction is a floating one.
