Dominion of Natura
The lush garden of the Blue
It is curious to note that of all the lush islands of the Blue, humanity started on Ilysium. The Dominion of Natura was certainly the most suitable for life, but why Ilysium specifically? The heartland of the Empire, the Dominion of Natura is, or in many places, was, a lush paradise. The islands are perfect for growing trees, and many of the islands supported large forests before they were cleared for farmland. Without proper care, many of these islands can turn barren, but a combination of earthblood and waterblood magic can keep them lush indefinitely. Most of the food produced in the Blue is made in the Dominion of Natura, and
Geographic Features
Most of the islands of the Dominion of Natura are relatively flat, with only slight hills. The main exception to this is Ilysium, which features a large central mountain, taller than most anything else in the Blue. Some islands have small lakes and even rivers, fed by the clouds that form above them.Flora and Fauna
Large forests of Quercus, Acer, and Fajus trees once blanketed almost every island in the Dominon of Natura. Now, many of the forests have been tamed or cut down entirely to make way for more conventional farms. The native mosses and ferns have been edged out by the hardier tall grasses from Boreana, which require far less water than the native plants. Native birds, namely the various species of Auiantum, have thrived in this new environment, while the native pramus have largely been scoured from the farmlands. They survive, largely in the towns and cities of the region, as minor pests.Natural Resources
The largest boon of the Dominon of Natura is the soil, which is well-suited to farming both crops and trees. This must be carefully maintained, or the island will "run dry", losing this quality and slowly decaying into a dry husk of its former self. However, with the right combination of farming practices and Sorcery, this death can be delayed indefinitely.Notable Locations
Adar
A tiny farming island, mostly ignored because of its size. It is constantly struggling to provide enough foods from its farms to be useful, without pushing the soil so far that the island teeters into a barren wasteland.Population: 247
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: Tycho Maius
Gades
An uninhabited island on the edge of the Blue, the site of a small colony that failed due to a disease native to the island. Though the land is still lush, and the forest untamed, fear of the disease that killed the colonists keeps new colonization at bay.Population: 0
Controlled by: Unclaimed
Owner: None
Haenna
A farming colony with the largest vinyards in the Blue. Haenna provides a barrier between the Trade Union and the vital town of Boreana, which provides the Empire and its farms with water. As such, there is a sizable military presence on Haenna.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Heliopolis
A main seat of power for House Putrace, Heliopolis' forests are home to one of the last populations of Serica in the Blue. The Serica, and the silk they produce, are highly valued in both the Empire and the Trade Union.Population: 2,371
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: The Tecsats Family
Ilysium
The birthplace of humanity in the Blue and the seat of Imperial power. Ilysium is the heart of the Empire, and most of the resources farmed, mined, or manufactured flow to Ilysium to support it and the Noble Houses that live there.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: Eligius Avisong
Liber
A ruin of a colony long-since burned. Liber was where the very first slave rebellion occured, and it was also where that revolution died, the whole colony violently slaughtered by the Imperial Navy. Superstition has kept it uninhabited, aside from the occasional smuggler or pirate.Population: 0
Controlled by: Unclaimed
Owner: None
Lignale
A small island on the border between the Dominion of Natura and the Barren Dominion, Lignale is still slowly recovering from a combination of over-farming and the repeated military strikes during the Trade Union Revolutionary War.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD
Mantua
One of the most productive farming colonies in the Empire, nearly half of all bread in the Empire can be traced back to a farm on Mantua. Because of its location on the edge of the habitable Blue, it is often overlooked by all but pirates looking to steal silk from nearby Heliopolis.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Mimsam
The breadbasket of the Trade Union, Mimsam also has a very storied history. It was the center of the worship of the Fullblooded, before the Empire destroyed the temple and the very ground underneath it, leaving the distinctive bay shape on the eastern side.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD
Olympus
Olympus was first colony, but it has long since become a city in its own right. As the center of the Imperial Navy, Olympus and its people have a very large influence on the policies of the Empire's great war-machine.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Pola
To make the steel that is used throughout the Empire, the foundries of Spoletium need wood. Pola is one of the main providers of that wood, with the forests that cover its land being entirely farmed and not old-growth.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Querk
Querk was destroyed almost completely by a natural disaster, the Great Storm. Afterwards, it was rebuilt instead of simply letting it become a slave colony, which endeared its population to the Empire, though they did eventually join the Trade Union in their revolution.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD
Salva
The Empire harvests a huge amount of raw materials, and those both have to be sorted, to reach whey they are needed, and turned into usable goods. Salva does most of that, its factories burning day and night to keep Ilysium satisfied.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Stobi
A prominent colony in the early sorcerous age, Stobi was abandoned after the island broke into three chunks. There were fears that the island would fall into the Depths, but this has not happened. Still, the island is deemed too unstable for another attempt at habitation.Population: 0
Controlled by: Unclaimed
Owner: None
Tyrus
Tyrus is a fairly small island, compared to some of the other farms, but it stays open because of the contents of its farms: fruit trees. Most of the fruit in the Empire comes from Tyrus, which is mostly bought up by the various Nobility wishing to indulge.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
Verona
The other source of wood in the Empire, Verona's town has largely outgrown its tree farms. During the war, the town was used as a waystation for raiding parties heading into the Trade Union, but in the peace that followed, it has largely been ignored.Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Empire
Owner: TBD
