Castle Stânweall
Built in the 1100s Castle Stânweall is the oldest building in Widdershins. Originally built to defend trade on the River Morrow it fell into disuse in the mid 1400s. Now the old castle has been retaken by the Salu Hyrst forest. It is a popular sight for painters and history lovers alike with multiple hiking paths intersecting on its grounds. The structure itself has seen better days. Most of the outer walls have crumbled away and the tower is missing a good chunk on the eastern side. Most of the damage can be attributed to erosion, earthquakes, or the stone being looted for building materials to construct the nearby town. The parts that do remain are considered generally safe but it is recommended to not go into the dungeons or up onto the tower for fear of collapse.
It is also not recommended to go to the castle at night due to the hostile spirits dwelling within. Malforms are attracted to the structure and infest the dark recesses of its crumbling form. It is hypothesized that this behavior is caused by the fact that so many people have inhabited the castle for so long and a wide range of emotions has taken place in it. This permeation of emotion then draws in lesser malforms who have escaped desummoning. They tend to stay within their burrows during the day but it is inadvisable to explore the older less traveled sections of the castle with out a partner preferably if you or they are a wizard.
Efforts have been made to desummon the malforms within the structure but these plans have been, to put it mildly, catastrophic. When the last of such attempts was made two years ago by the university it caused a wave of angry malforms to sweep throughout town causing thousands of pounds of property damage. Ahzek Ahriman apologized for the destruction but remined Counsel Woman Fairbairn that this undertaking was ordered by the city counsel and that the university was not liable for "When this plan, which we know was very stupid, turned out to indeed be very stupid".
