Hammerfall Company Organization in White Reach | World Anvil

Hammerfall Company

Overview

A relatively new mercenary outfit, Hammerfall Company formed immediately following the Fourth Succession War's end out of several veterans who weren't ready to stop making trouble. However, from their perspective it was much more worthwhile to make trouble for people who were opposing the newly-unified Federated Commonwealth. Captain Grause makes broad claims about the outfit being patriots, and yet he only seems interested in fighting on the Commonwealth side of the border against "foreign insurgents attempting to destabilize the newly acquired territory". It is somewhat telling there are official sanctions directing them not to operate in the area, yet they continue to do so. Generally, their commanding officer saw it as a game against the odds of actually having someone catch up to them quickly enough to serve notice.

White Reach Operations

On their arrival on White Reach during the middle of January, 3032, Hammerfall Company quickly established a base of operations on Orenn Continent and attempted to claim they were to replace the planetary militia. As the High Senate had already reached an understanding with Priam Company, they refused to entertain the notion and on February 12th they demanded Hammerfall Company either depart or submit to the authority of Kommandant Valdane. In a misguided attempt to force the issue, a small detachment of Hammerfall forces assaulted Greyglass Retreat on February 27th, intending to take a handful of junior senators from the Common Senate were staying. Priam Company engaged them and managed to put them into retreat, seizing a Jenner and Black Knight from the retreating forces.

Hammerfall Company then attempted to lay low, despite Kommandant Valdane attempting to contract them to take on the Harbingers with them. After witnessing what appeared to be a portion of the Harbingers' forces going to a mission on March 17th, they threw all they had into an assault on Calderon Firebase. This turned out to be a bad idea, as most of their forces had remained at the base and they had prepared the approach to have mostly open field. Pushing the battle, Captain Grause was not able to do more than deal moderate damage to the Harbingers while sustaining crippling losses. Ceding the field, Captain Grause was forced to disband Hammerfall Company.

Disbandment

Hammerfall Company was forced to disband after taking significant losses and having numerous criminal activities exposed from their time on White Reach. Captain Joseph Grause took responsibility for many of these actions, and testified against many others who had taken actions including theft, kidnapping, and destruction of government property. Many who eluded capture joined the Coral Rebellion led by Elizabeth Wallings, or were taken in by the Oathsworn and Ouroboros Sun. When the dust settled, more individuals were left unaccounted for than were taken into custody. Among those unaccounted for was a Grasshopper pilot who had voided his contract and vanished after an attack by the Harbingers.
