Failed Ones Species in When the Curtain has fallen | World Anvil

Failed Ones

Except for the Created coming from the Jupiter Branch (The Creation Project), the growth of most of the Created doesn't go so smoothly.
When something goes wrong, mostly by bad insertion of the Beast DNA (Beasts) into the human one, the so-called Failed Ones are born.   These creatures are often used by the Creation Project if anyone hiring their services needs cheap cannon fodder that could also severely decrease the morale of the opponent during the combat.
If not used in that way, the Failed Ones are scheduled to be incinerated at the end of the month.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Most Failed Ones look like humans that are disfigured in some way or lack some parts of their body. Some look more like their beastly parents with human parts grafted on them in the places they shouldn't be.
Very often some of their organs are visible through the holes in their bodies.
A lot of them are still alive, even if they look like that would be scientifically impossible in any way (lacking upper half of the skull, heart or other vital parts).

Genetics and Reproduction

Just like normal Created, the Failed Ones are completely sterile.

Growth Rate & Stages

Their growth to "fully mature" ones usually takes faster than the normal Created, so anything beneath or equal 2 months.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Just as normal Created, the Failed Ones could survive not feeding for the month, however unlike the Created, they often cannot control their urges and try to consume everything that resembles food in any way.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Average Failed One has intelligence that someone could describe as very "zombie-like". They attack and/or eat anything they see, the only way for them to open the door is by pushing on them until the hinges or the door itself give out (which isn't that long as they still have superhuman strength all Created share) and they aren't capable of speech or understanding it.   Sometimes there shows up a Failed One with the brain that is more developed.
Their intelligence level could be described as that of the caveman or someone who lived his whole life in the wilderness. Those specimens are able to use tools and doors, they sometimes understand simple phrases, and rarely they can lead another Failed Ones.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their ability to perceive their surroundings changes from one specimen to another.
Some see better than any human could. Some are completely blind and attack everything around them. Some of them that couldn't see have other senses so sharp that they could as well see everything around them.
