Chimera Species in When the Curtain has fallen | World Anvil

Chimera

Inspired by The Creator's idea to mix the human DNA with the Beast one (Beasts) years earlier, the scientists of the Pluto branch of The Creation Project decided to experiment with the genetic codes of other animals.   The result of those experiments (after many failures) was a creation of the first chimera. 1 part a hybrid of different animals and 1 part eldritch horror.
Right after the chimera experiments were shut down (mainly because of the high costs of creating them, their low effectiveness, and because how hard it is to control them), there are 24 different chimeras (each named after the Greek letter).   All of the chimeras share higher intelligence than their animal ancestors, strong healing factor, increased aggression and incredible speed with which they can adapt to the hostile environment.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Chimeras usually look like a mix of two or more animals with some parts that are more alien.
For example, Sigma is a mix of a wolf and a panther with six legs and way too many eyes.
Most of them walk on their fours (or more) and possess some kind of tail.
Their skeleton and muscle mass are adapted to their altered physiology, so no problems related to the bad structure were detected.
Their teeth and jaws are so strong they can crush rocks (and in some cases even metal).

Biological Traits

Variations of the chimeras depend on three things:
  • Which parts of DNA of which animals used to create a chimera
  • Genetic code of which Beast was used
  • The proportions of the mixture of DNA
All of those three things can define the look, the abilities, the strength, and the lifespan of the creature. That is if the chimera will form completely, as most of them come out as Failed Ones.

Genetics and Reproduction

Chimeras are completely sterile.

Growth Rate & Stages

After the insertion of the mixture of the DNA of the Beast and animal into an animal stem cell, it takes them two months in the Growth Chamber to fully mature.

Ecology and Habitats

Almost all of the environments (except really extreme ones) can be optimal for the chimeras thanks to their ability to adapt really fast.
Just in under one minute, their respiratory system can change so it lets them breathe the gases other than oxygen or smaller amount of oxygen.
Their skin can harden and change to withstand higher pressure or temperatures.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Chimeras need to feed on anything that is rich in energy to properly function.
Their digestive system is able to digest almost everything and absorb the nutrients with 95% efficiency.
If the times are really bad, they can feed on the grass and even on the minerals.
But most of them love the taste of the meat.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sight, hearing, and sense of smell are all enhanced.
Most of them can see the world in a spectrum of light way wider than their animal parents could.
