The Known World

Geography

The Known World is a vast place. It is much larger than our own globe, and it contains several large continents, each with its own distinctive civilisations and creatures.   Although it is larger than Earth the planet Warhammer functions in much the same way as our own planet. Gravity is almost identical, weather patterns are similar, and even the shapes of the main continents mimic our own. A simplified map of the world has been inserted into this article, and as you can see the layout of the continents are very similar to those of Earth.   There is a reason for this similarity as it is said that an ancient race of spacefarers called The Old Ones who were responsible for the evolution and engineering of both Earth and Warhammer used the same basic template for both planets and many others. Merely altering the basic scale to assess the consequences of overall size on their experiment in world creation.   The only significant difference between Earth and the Warhammer world is that Warhammer has been contaminated with warp energy, and that Warhammer is populated by a number of different alien civilisations as well as the various races of humans.   The area where your adventure takes place is called The Old World and can be found in the upper central portion of the map in the approximate location of Europe on Earth.
The Known World takes 400 days to travel round its sun.
The world is orbited by two moons. The larger of these - known in The Empire as Mannslieb ("Beloved of Manann") - has a cycle of 25 days similar to that of Earth. The other - named Morrslieb ("Beloved of Mórr") - is erratic, sometimes appearing closer, and at other times further away than its partner.
