Dragons
Dragons rule the skies. They are powerful and majestic. No two dragons are quite the same. They all have unique combinations of colours. For them the colours don’t have a lot of meaning. They know though that getting an injury in the accent colour can mean their death. The colours are important. Linking two elements to them. Elements they can use instinctually. The base colour is tied to the geographical terrain they do best in. The accent is tied to other things that you can run into. From fire and ice, to poison and lightning. The accent colours are the most varied. They each have a territory they tend to stick to. How territorial or aggressive they are depends on what elements are running through them. Their scales have an internal light that illuminates the night and other dark areas. It’s their magic shining through. They use their magic instinctually and don’t realize that they are using it. Their relation with humans can be rocky, but they can also be quite deep. If they find the right human they can go through what is known as the Rite. It will join the human on a deep level. They will be able to speak to each other telepathically and know what the other is feeling. These pairings are fairly rare though as dragons can be very solitary at times. Dragons are the ultimate fliers. They can fly forward and backward. They can also fly upside down. They are true acrobats and very athletic in the air. On the ground they can be a bit more awkward, but whenever possible they take to the skies. They have a language that they use between them. They sometimes struggle with learning how to project human speech. They prefer their telepathic language that incorporates body language and positioning.
A long time ago, a time that has faded even from myths and legends, they fought with the people with power. They all lived together. The dragons instinctively disliked the people with power as they used aspects of the natural world to fuel their magic. The dragons thought that it was unnatural for them to possess such abilities. The fight between the dragons and the people with power was tearing the world apart. So the Guardians and the Watcher decided that something needed to be done. The two sides were separated by a great barrier. The Guardians watched over one side and the Watcher the other. The barrier was in the middle of a great mountain ranges, so between the environment and the magics woven into the valley where the barrier was, it was unlikely that anyone would cross over to the other side. The memory of the other side faded from memory. The few that did manage to cross with fantastical stories were discounted due to their poor state when they were found. The stories were just discounted as hallucinations.
