Silver Material in Wasteland Of Ohm | World Anvil

Silver

Ah yes, the material no one can ever stay quiet about. A martial used in both trade, craft, and worship.

Silver Glints Everywhere

If you don't know what silver is then your most likely a child or an idiot. In either case, you shouldn't be reading this. It's still important to establish why silver is such a prominent and important material in our world and our culture.
  1. It is the most electrically conductive metal that is readily available to every faction. Almost any tool containing Ontologite uses either this, or copper when related directly with the Copper Mount Militia. Gold is a close third but shows up much more rarely due to its scarcity, however it is preferred in tool use thanks to its corrosion-resistant qualities.
  2. The above quality and its relative scarcity and extreme conductivity compared to other conductive materials has lead to it being the prime trading currency among all the major factions. These transactions of silver come most often in the form of small bars or coins with various impressions representing where they came from with the weight of said bits being what determines its true value. To give some reference, a tenth of a pound of silver, or 1.6 ounces can get you a big hearty meal, while three pounds or 48 ounces can get you about 30 days of travel rations.
  3. Its prevalence as a currency can be found with its roots primarily stemming from Fields Union. The trade guild putting the silver weight system was put into place to mainly control We of the Sand after their war with them sometime around 120 to 160 AE. The system was adopted under force and has stuck around ever since.
  4. Almost every major religion or legend has silver commonly referenced, due to its prevalence in the Silverbark, and its presence in the illusive Silver Nautilus samples. Strange synthetic creatures that are clearly un-living. Their flesh often having strands of or being constructed of silver.
