The Baha-Bera Family

The Baha-Bera family (better known as the Great Pirate Family) is a well-recorded family found across Ka'a'. They were well-known for their incest and odd causes of death. Their family crest showcases the two family bloodlines; the Baha bloodline (blue) and the Bera bloodline (red).   Seven generations of the family have been recorded, with future generations undocumented.

First generation

Arthur Baha (a.k.a Arthur the Red)

Arthur the Red is the patriarch of the family and the founder of their pirating trade. He is also referred to as Baha the Butcher, as he has massacred 2 million Mountain-Elves and Foxlings in his journeys. No records of his parents are kept, although it is said his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother an invalid cripple. At the age of 25 he left his small town along with his wife Magdala (a.k.a Big Momma) after being haunted by the ghost of a man he had killed in a duel. One night while camping at the side of a river, he saw a vision of a massive pirate-ship made of glass, carrying a large golden city on its deck. Inspired by the vision, he set to living a life as a pirate. Near the oceans of Yip he purchased a massive Gunship with his remaining money, christened it "Macondo", and set sail with his wife and newborn son to establish a reputation as a lethal and successful pirate. Arthur was an introspective and inquisitive man of massive strength and energy who spent more time on his scientific and pirating pursuits than with his family. He dabbled with alchemy and astronomy and became increasingly withdrawn from his family and community, although he maintained a close relationship with his parrot Tootsie, who would outlive the generations, and frequently spoke to the bird in Yippish and Ka'aian. Arthur fought many battles in his life as a pirate, and was killed by a poisoned arrow fired at him from a hired assassin on a cold and rainy night among the raging Yippish oceans.

Magdala Baha (a.k.a Big Momma)

Magdala Baha was one of the two matriarchs of the family and was wife to Arthur Baha. She lived to be well over 100 years old and she watched over the household through six of the seven generations documented in the family-records. She exhibited a very strong character and often succeeded where the men of her family failed, such as killing a female Hydra-Liger with a skillfully-thrown butter-knife. She died from old age, and her body was left in the ocean, sinking in a large stone casket.

Second generation

Nizra Baha (a.k.a Tattoo Man)

Arthur Baha's firstborn son, Nizra Baha inherited his father's headstrong, impulsive mannerisms. He eventually left the family at 18 to chase a gypsy girl and unexpectedly returned many years later as an enormous man covered in tattoos, claiming that he had sailed the seas of the world. He married his adopted sister Rebeca, causing his banishment from the mansion, and he died from a mysterious gunshot wound, days after saving his brother from execution in a battle with enemy pirates.

Marzion Baha (a.k.a The Precognitive)

Arthur Baha's second son and the first person to be born on the Macondo. He was thought to have premonitions because everything he said came true. He represented not only a warrior figure but also an artist due to his ability to write poetry and create finely crafted sculptures the size of rice-grains. During the wars on the ocean he fathered 17 sons by unknown women, all of them named "Bera" (meaning "Knife"). Four of the Bera sons later began to leave Macondo, and finally all 17 left the ship and set off to establish their own pirating lives with the money inherited from their father's exploits. These 17 all married foreign women, and established the Bera family-bloodline through years of intermarriage.

Moscote Bera (a.k.a The Young Beauty)

Moscote was the youngest daughter of the Bera bloodline. Her most striking physical features was her beautiful skin and her emerald-green eyes. A man by the name of John the Bumble fell in love with her, despite her extreme youth. He married her, by the family's wishes, and established the next generation of the Bera bloodline. It was later revealed that he was Artur Baha's youngest nephew, thus committing incest with his relative. Moscote died shortly after the marriage from a blood poisoning illness during her pregnancy, but not before she birthed two young twin boys.

Joanne Baha (a.k.a The Sandgirl)

The third child of Arthur Baha, Joanne grew up as a companion of her adopted sister Rebeca. However, her feelings toward Rebeca turn sour over Peter Saul, whom both sisters intensely desired in their teenage years. Joanne was infected with Sandpaper and became a Sandy; she was forced to live out a life of pain and isolation, but she finally died from a bullet-wound, comfortable in her existence after having finally accepted what she had become.

Rebeca Baha (a.k.a The Rag-and-Bones Girl)

Rebeca was the second cousin of Magdala Baha and the orphaned child of Nicanor Ulloa Baha and his wife Rebeca Montiel Baha. At first she wad extremely timid, refusing to speak, and had the habit of eating earth and whitewash from the walls of the house, a condition known as pica. However, she gradually grew accustomed to her new pirate family, and even took part in many of their conquests and battles with rival groups contesting for the wealth of the sea. She fell in love with and married her adoptive brother Nizra Baha after his return from traveling the world. After his mysterious and untimely death, she lived in seclusion for the rest of her life, finally dying from food-poisoning after accidentally consuming a poisonous cactus.

Third generation

Arcadio Bera (a.k.a The Bastard)

Arcadio was Nizra Baha's illegitimate son fathered by Ternera Bera, his close cousin. He was a good warrior who assumed leadership of Macondo after the death of Arthur Baha. He became a tyrannical dictator and used his power to kidnap children from neighboring villages as his personal army and Macondo soon became subject to his whims. He died after a brutal fight with a desert-bear, during which both stabbed each other to death among the boiling sands of the Yippish desert.

Aureliano Bera (a.k.a The Liberal)

Aureliano was the illegitimate son of Arcadio Bera and Ternera Bera, his mother. He joined his father in several wars before deserting to return to Macondo upon hearing that it's possible to marry one's aunt. Aureliano was obsessed with his aunt, Joanne Baha, who raised him since birth and who categorically rejected his advances. He was eventually shot to death by a pirate-captain midway through the wars.

Edgar and Edward Baha (a.k.a The Twins)

During their 32 war campaigns, the twin sons of Moscote Baha pillaged gold, silver and anything they could get their hands on from helpless victims. Their greed for possessions led to them angering some violent witches, and they were assassinated by the government, which identified them by the mysterious cross-shaped birthmarks on their foreheads.

Fourth generation

Belle Bera (a.k.a Belle the Beauty)

Belle the Beauty is Arcadio and Ternera Bera's first child, born through incest. It is said she was the most beautiful woman ever seen in Ka'a', and unintentionally caused the deaths of several men who loved or wanted her. She inherited great lucidity from her ancestor Arthur Baha. From the way she talked to the way she acted around others, it was as if she had come back from twenty years of war. She rejects clothing and beauty. Too beautiful and wise for the world, Belle was killed by rival pirate clans, but not before she too birthed twin boys fathered through Edgar Baha.

Jimothy Bera (a.k.a Jimmy Bera)

Jimmy Bera is the twin brother of Timmy Bera, the children of Edgar Baha and Belle Bera. Unlike his brother, he grew up to be pensive and quiet. He rarely helped in pillaging, and instead preferred to construct elaborate weapons (e.g. Zappers with blades) in his own private room on Macondo. He died at the exact instant his twin died.

Timothy Bera (a.k.a Timmy Bera)

Of the two brothers, Timothy Bera was the more boisterous and impulsive, much like the men of the Bera bloodlines of the family. During his lifetime, his livestock (chickens and baboons which he bred and killed to sell their meat, fur and feathers) propagated wildly, and he indulged in unrestrained revelry and greed. After a period of long rains, his fortune dried up, and he was left almost penniless. He went back to serious pirating, and turned to search for a buried treasure, which drove him to insanity. He died of an unknown throat illness at the same moment as his twin.   During the confusion at the funeral, the bodies of Timmy and Jimmy were switched, and each one was buried in the other's grave.

Kiki Baha (a.k.a The Aristocrat)

The most intelligent and mild-mannered of the Baha bloodline. She had two children by Timothy Bera (her close cousin): Rosemary and Ashanti. Her third child, Tiberius, was born later through unknown means. She remained in Macondo after her husband died, taking care of the ship until her death. She died from a self-inflicted bullet-wound to the chest, for unknown reasons.

Fifth generation

Ashanti Bera (a.k.a. Rosy)

Ashanti was the first child and first daughter of Kiki Baha and Timothy Bera. While she didn't inherit her mother's beauty, she did have her father's love of life and natural charisma. After her mother declared that she was to do nothing but pillage ships and play the clavichord, she was sent to school in a nearby fishing-village where she received her performance degree as well as academic recognition. While she pursued the clavichord with an inflexible discipline to placate her mother, she also enjoyed partying and exhibited the same tendency towards excess as her father. She finally bore a deformed child with Jimmy Baha, and was tempted to kill the child in order to avoid shame, but instead claimed he was an orphan in order to cover up her incestuous mistake and was forced to tolerate him against her will for the rest of her life because at the moment of truth she lacked the courage to go through with her inner determination to drown him.

Melchizedek Baha (a.k.a Captain Baha the Mad)

The deformed child of Ashanti Bera and Jimmy Baha, he was raised by Magdala Baha (by now nearly 104 years in age), who intended for him to leave behind the family tradition of pirating. He spent his days pining for Rosemary Baha, the object of his obsession. Eventually, he discovered the treasure Magdala had kept buried under her bed (the extra money collected from previous pillages done by Arthur in his life), which he wasted on lavish parties and escapades with adolescent boys. Later, he began a tentative friendship with Bera (the Blade of The East), his distant nephew. His greatest adversary in life was One-Eyed Barnabas.

Rosemary Baha (a.k.a The Last Mother)

She was the second child of Kiki Baha and Jimmy Bera. She never knew that Melchizedek was a very close relative, thinking he had been adopted. He became her best friend in childhood, and even until death when he went insane and became a ruthless pirate. She died of a hemorrhage after she had given birth to the last of the bloodlines, fathered through an unknown source.

Sixth generation

Tiberius Baha

The first and last male child of Kiki Baha. As a child he was loud and extravagant, and he died at the tragic age of 16 after leaping off the deck of Macondo to see if the ancestral spirits of his ancestors would save him, as a test of faith.

Seventh generation

Bera (a.k.a The Blade of The East)

Having no other name, he is the child of Rosemary Baha. He was born with a pig's tail and various other deformities, which he kept covered with a face-shawl and scarf. He maintained a close relationship with Captain Baha the Mad, who would later become his tutor and great friend. At the age of 14 he left Macondo, and returned 12 years later as a ruthless savage, training with the Dawnguard and rising up to become their leader. His greatest adversary was One-Eyed Barnabas.   After Captain Baha the Mad and Bera the Blade of The East, there are no other recorded members of the Baha-Bera bloodlines, as both pirates seemed to have been unmarried. However, there could still be children born secretly who will some day rise up as a new generation of pirates to terrorize Ka'a'.
