Grendon

Where Great Minds Think, and Steady Hands Work

Grendon is the homeland of the Gnomes and the Halflings, situated below the equator to the southeast of Arkham Country and southwest of the Kraken Isles. It is a small continent, split almost in half by the Great Gorge, the world's largest canyon. Its northeastern half is dominated by rolling hills and a lush forest, where the halflings make their home of Chondalwood. The southwestern half of the continent is much rockier, full of dusty canyons, steppes, plateaus, and Mount Vesuvius, a large active volcano where the Smallfolk River originates that flows through the Great Gorge.

Geography

Northeastern Grendon, where the Halflings reside, is a lush plain, full of farmland and forests. Dominated by the titular Chondalwood Forest, which eventually becomes a jungle rainforest towards the northern coast, the further south you travel the more open it becomes. The area between the Great Gorge and the Forest is rolling hills, plains, and grassland, where much of the farming the Halflings produce is made.

The Great Gorge is a hundred-and-fifty-foot canyon, and at the bottom flows the Smallfolk River, from the base of Mount Vesuvius to the ocean in the west, at the Gulf of Gold. The River is neutral territory, cultivated by both the Halflings and Gnomes in cooperation.

Southern Grendon is a rocky land of canyons and steppes, interspersed with high-desert plains and plateaus. Various smaller rivers run their course throughout the Canyonlands, and towards the base of Mount Vesuvius the land turns into a true volcanic desert of black sand, obsidian hills, and igneous rock formations.

Fauna & Flora

Most of the fauna found on Grendon are farm animals, both domestic and wild, and wild game. There are wild forest predators in the Chondalwood, like wolves and bears, and in the overgrown jungles of the north big cats and other jungle animals reside. There are also more monstrous animals, chief among them the Purple Worm that travels the volcanic soil near Mount Vesuvius, but whose secretions and parts the Gnomes hunt for in great numbers. The flora covers anything from wildflowers to cacti, to large ironwood, darkwood, and luftwood trees in the Chondalwood. The jungle is full of giant sequoia and redwood trees, ancient beyond belief, as well as walking palms that grow to enormous size and create natural shelters for the Halflings and other jungle denizens.

Natural Resources

Forestry resources, farm produce, animal goods, precious metals and minerals, exotic monster materials, obsidian, mithral, adamantine, luftwood, darkwood, ironwood, gold, silver.
