Grand beginnings
Opening it's doors for the first time ten years ago, Two Steps rapidly became one of the places to be seen in the city. Started by two sisters after they inherited a moderate sum of money from their father, it is now the most successful dance hall on the strip. Sia and Lara Mestuvan both shared a love for dancing and music, and with Sia's knack for business and Lara's way with people, a dance hall seemed the perfect business opportunity. They bought a plot of commercial land at a time when the government was selling it off cheap to encourage economic growth, and built the club from the ground up. The city had suffered during the war and it's subsequent effects, but it had worked hard on recovery efforts and it's citizens finally had time to turn their attention to more leisurely pursuits. The shiny new club, which promised: a spacious dance floor, nightly live music, a fully stocked bar, a lounge area, and courtyard seating area, was an instant hit with the wealthier denizens of the city and the two sisters never looked back.Purpose / Function
Two steps is primarily a dance club, and prides itself on hosting the best live bands every night. However it's upper floor caters to those who wish a more subdued experience with two lounges, and a balcony over looking the river. The bands who take to the stage downstairs are usually lively and at the forefront of popular music, and the dancefloor is never empty. Two bars service the thirsty dancers and a semicircle of tables and chairs around the dance floor, provide much needed relief for those who need a breather from dancing.
One of the lounges on the upper floor hosts jazz and lounge singers, and the other instrumentalists. Things are a little quieter up here, but the quality of music and excellent service remain the same. Each lounge has it's own fully stocked bar, and for an extra fee, table service can be provided. The balcony offers a breath of fresh air and a view over the river, a dozen tables are arranged up here and potted flowers, dotted around the edge, release fagrant scents into the night air.
To the rear of the building is a large courtyard, surrounded by a high curved wall. The perimeter of the courtyard contains alcoves made from cultivated hedges, with low benches and cushions inside, to allow a modicum of privacy. In the centre of the courtyard is a tall sculpted fountain. Low raised flower beds, stone benches and wrought iron table and chairs dot the remaing space of the courtyard.
Architecture
The building is a two storey affair, with a large sculpted front and a broad set of steps leading up to the entrance. The exterior walls are rendered in white Keramian resin, giving the walls a smooth sleek finish. The design of the building is all smooth curves and clean simple lines, with black and gold lacquered sung crystal tiles picking out an elegant pattern across it surface.
