The Oath and the Twins

The Brightest Stars in the Sky

ORION by Lubo Minar

The Stars

Arguably the brightest stars in Vyril's sky, the three stars have become important to the Wild Elves for navigation. With no maps and very little written word, the Wild Elves rely on landmarks and the position of the stars for navigation. They orientate themselves in the nightsky by The Oath, flanked by The Twins. Named after the three most important, prominent things in Wild Elf culture.

The Oath

The Oath, the brightest of the stars and the center of the three, represents the binding Oaths that the Wild Elves make. That they are compelled to adhere to once an Oath has been made. It was a binding factor in the development of their culture and one of the most important aspects of their culture.

The Twins

The Twins are the two brighter stars that flank The Oath. These two bright stars represent the twin goddesses that watch over the Wild Elves. They were a uniting force in the elve's history and helped structure how the warbands function now.

Purpose

These three stars are used to orientate the Wild Elves, so that they can navigate around the contintent no matter where they might find themselves. There are also other culturally significant constellations that are found easier by first finding The Oath and The Twins.

Given how the Realm and the stars work, The Oath and the Twins can be seen year round. Though their position in the sky does change and vary, how big and bright they are by comparison to all others make them the most distinguished.

Other Races

While there are other races that study the stars on Yandelar, none of them put as much importance or empthasis on these three stars. Regardless of the cultural significance, or lack there of, everyone on Yandelar knows of these three stars. Even if they're known by another name or have a different story. Thus, they are aptly named the Trade Stars or the Guiding Lights. Usually when in mixed company and trying to convey directions to provide a base frame of reference to work from.
