Kingdom of Piast
Kingdom of Piast, located in northeastern part of Istroya is one of the most powerful countries on the continent, or even the world. While their territory is quite small, kings of Piast have a lot of influence throughout the continent. Most notably, they have a lot of influence in the neighbouring Kingdom of Vavel and Duchy of Hel. Those are countries that once were part of the Kingdom of Piast. Both of them declared their independance long ago when the Piastan throne was given to a candidate they really didn't like very much.
History
Piast the Wheelwright
Piast the Wheelwright is the legendary founder of the Kingdom of Piast. According to legend, he was visited by a couple of mages during his son's 7th birthday's celebration. In return for the hospitality, the mages cast a spell that made Piast's cellar full of food and drink. Piast's compatriots saw this as a sign from the gods and proclaimed him their new prince, replacing the late Prince Popiel. As prince, Piast united the Lechite people and crowned himself king.
Land of the Eagle
Kingdom of Piast's emblem is a white eagle on a red background. It comes from a legend about the founding of the country's captial, Eagle's Nest. According to it, Lech, the legendary progenitor of the Lechite people, was looking for a place to settle for his tribe. After months of travelling everyone was tired, but hostile tribe were pushing them out of every land. Then, one day, Lech saw an eagle building a nest on a lonely tree in the middle of a meadow. There, he founded the city of Eagle's Nest.
Territories
Kingdom of Piast controls the region of Istroya known as Greater Lechia. Together with Lesser Lechia and the Hel Peninsula it constitutes the ancestral lands of the Lechites.
Military
The kingdom is a feudal state. It means that the majority of the military consists of nobles obligated to serve the king as warriors. Additionally, nobles, the king and the cities recruit infantry units from townfolk and peasants.
Foreign Relations
Kingdom of Piast is one of the main players on Istroya's political scene. Its rulers can project their power both diplomatically and militarly. Duchy of Hel and Kingdom of Vavel are their main allies. Meanwhile, the United Provinces of Gold Coast and the Duchy of Southern Gold Coast are their close economic partners, but remain neutral politcally. Main rival of the Kingdom Piast is the Vessian Tsardom. Tensions between the two countries are high. Some people say that a war is inevitable. When it breaks out, it will be more than a conflict between two countries. Two big political blocks will clash and no one will be safe.
