What is Vynari?
To put it simply vynari is the main focus world in a custom high magic Fantasy universe set in a generally late medieval era. It started out as a rather simple low-magic bare boned 'general fantasy' setting based off a map I doodled on some hotel paper at a job-workshop when I was unemployed.
It was a simple creation to get away from some less then desirable Roleplay 'environments' that myself and a close friend of mine found ourselves in, we came to the conclusion during a Roleplay session on the servers 'downtime module', which was essentially a few empty rooms and some body/tailor editors, that we where having more fun roleplaying our own situations in an empty room than we were in a build environment with a so-so community with more out of character motivation for in character actions then they should have.
So using my map doodle and Neverwinter Nights Aurora toolset and server hosting system I created the small simple low magic farming realm of 'Shay' at the time I pretty much had rudimentary lore for Ethalion a basic cultural outline for Litia, Ixaria, Shay, Sharea and Mealdross, it was more of a homebrew DND Setting at the time, and I didn't think to hard on it. We had our first playerbase some friends from a starwars Galaxy roleplay community for a saga I call 'The heroes of Shay'.
It was my first time really 'Dungeon Mastering' and I pretty much just had a map filled with NPCs interiors and a tool for spawning more NPCs both hostile and friendly. so I'll admit right now, that I pulled all the plot and lore out of my -ass- as we went along. I was perhaps overzealous with my desire to entertain and immerse. If a player cut down a tree, I went into the toolset and replaced that tree with a stump, I ran multiple clients and stretched myself thin trying to run events and play NPCs for players in numerous different locations, however it worked, and as hard as it was to pull off I enjoyed it and our playerbase lasted a good few adventures, tapering off during a social RP Lull, all except for one.
Iksehn stepped in to help run things so I wouldn't stress myself out, and so that I could be the 'player' from time to time he took my concepts and helped flesh them out. Over the years we came to have many playerbases, most good, some bad but all valuable learning experiences, often tapering off in the slower seasons of social RP, but we continued their stories, we continued our characters, I grew to play multiples characters at once, so did he. We populated our world with lore and detail stories and plotlines playing off each other for 14 years before he unfortunately passed away.
In the later years I came to become an addict of our shared setting and with so much material to work with I have a passion to grow a Roleplay focused game in this world with its own community, and tell stories of the world through the roleplay, through side games, art and writing. Its a setting that really evolved into its own beast filled with complexities and a myriad of stories to tell and even if my audience is only one, I will gladly pour my life into working on this world for the rest of my days.
I love what it is. I love what its done for me and I only want to share that with others- and through it create a legacy for myself, for Iksehn and for all others that come along with an intention of keeping the Roleplay in the most 'recent events' side of things I intend for the community in time to inspire and create new stories in the world created. Contributing through play and art.
Vynari is a setting I try to maintain and try to keep consistent, I am the lore-master for it, but I'd like to think I've created a world open for all kinds of play- with structure enough to stop it feeling too much like 'sandbox roleplay'.
