Phoenix Clan
Other clans guard the Empire’s borders, even the
Empire’s future, but the Phoenix guard the Empire’s
soul. It is the duty of the Phoenix to keep safe the myriad
religious paths of the Empire, defining them and
arbitrating their differences. Scholars of the Tao and
servants of the spirits are found among the Phoenix’s
ranks more than in any other clan; the wisdom the
Phoenix have gleaned from both traditions has led
them to foster peace and understanding among the
other clans, even if it means sacrificing themselves in
the process.
Although technically ruled by the Clan Champion and acting Daimyo, the true power in the Phoenix Clan lies in the Isawa family, and their council of Elemental Masters. The Clan Champion serves as a mouthpiece for their wisdom.
The Phoenix hold dear the tenant of Righteousness, but think little of Sincerity
Public Agenda
The Phoenix are the masters of the elements, and the keepers of knowledge. They are devout spiritualists who worship the kami and protect sacred sites. They believe that knowledge is power, and sometimes that knowledge is too powerful and too dangerous for the rest of Rokugan, and thus they protect it from misuse.
Foreign Relations
With the Great Wall of the North Mountains to their north, and the Sea of Amatarasu to the east, the Phoenix has few borders shared with neighbors. Border skirmishes with the Lion and Dragon occur, but not much in terms of all out war.
Because of their insistence on holding and keeping knowledge, the Phoenix have a philosophical divide with the Dragon. And while it does not bring them to war, it causes a lot of strife between the two clans in their political relationships.

Agriculture & Industry
The fertile plains of the Phoenix boast some of the most fertile farm lands in all of Rokugan. The mountains are rich in silver, which they export to help fund and build their massive libraries and monasteries.
