The role of Myotrans in the modern world.

Myotrans are a form of life created by binding a soul to a Lerite crystal. Most commonly it's a Human soul. By doing this that person is introduced to a new way of life and seeing the world. They become potentially immortal as long as they remain above 0 degrees Celsius. Dropping below this point would kill them for good, but in the modern age it isn't much of a problem. By containing themselves within a pod, which uses electricity to keep them alive, they are safe. These pods come with a variety of extra features, like wifi connection, translators that allow communication with humans, and emergency energy stores.   The Myotran translator has become a very important invention for Myotra. It basically allows them to be working members of Human society, as computer operators, software designers, musicians, even CEO's of large companies. They can also be a part of wars, piloting small aircraft, Spying on unaware enemies, controlling war golems and airships. Because of their small size and absence of hunger or thirst, they also are perfect for space flight. They suffer no ill effects of space travel, and can even move through space using only their inherit Telekinetic abilities to propel themselves, without a space suit.   Although the benefits of being an immortal, telekinetic, gemstone are great, their numbers remain small. Nobody wants to give up the little things that make them human; eating, sleeping, getting high, having sex, having a steamy candlelit bath after a hard day work to ease your sore muscles, all things that they would have to give up. Many people also hold the belief in their religion that becoming a Myotra would stop them from going to their version of the afterlife. Some, less religious, folk think that becoming a Myotra IS a form of afterlife. They worship Myotra as superior forms of life, and plan to become one in the event of their death. So as the Myotran population slowly grows each year. Perhaps they will one day become more numerous than Humans?   As for the rights afforded to them: It varies from country to country. Some give them full rights the same as any Human, while others may restrict their creation, and treat them as lesser life forms to be eradicated or enslaved.   Myotrans excel at jobs too dangerous for Humans.   Firefighting for example, they are able to enter blazing buildings to put out fires and save the occupants because they have no lungs and are only strengthened by the heat.   Radiation also rarely affects them, so they can operate nuclear reactors, or move nuclear waste with no ill effects.   Search and rescue is also perfect, they don't need to eat or sleep, and can sense objects through rubble, then move the rubble without the need for heavy machinery.   In fact, with the help of a Myotran Pod, they can do pretty much any job a Human can do, with a greater degree of accuracy. Historically they have made excellent watchmakers, with the ability to sense the entire mechanism at work, and manipulate pieces into place with otherworldly dexterity. Of course anything that requires taste, smell or a sense of temperature are a little more difficult, so there aren't many Myotran chefs.
