Myotra or yours?

"But Shy!" I hear you say "if immortality is possible by becoming a Myotra, why isn't everyone immortal in your world?"
Good question.
Why become a Myotra? Sure you get to be effectively immortal as long as you don't go cold, but you can't enjoy all the things a human can. Things like food, or sex, a nice warm bath or the cool morning breeze. You can't smell as a Myotra, you can't taste, you can't communicate or breath in fresh air. No enjoyment out of petting a soft fluffy dog or cat. You'd have no arms or legs, at least no proper arms or legs. No fabulous hair to style, no pretty eyes for people to compliment you on.
People will treat you differently, some may think of you as nothing more than a parasite, an unnatural clump of rock with no use to society. Others will have trouble understanding why you'd become a clump of rock in the first place.
And what about love? Humans need this in order to propagate their species, but you are just a rock. You'll never feel love in the same way a human does. An intense burning desire to be close and intimate with someone. Nope. That's not something a Myotra can feel.
By becoming immortal you are giving up so many wonderful experiences that make you what you are. Eventually you'll lose all empathy. But at least you'll be everlasting, right?
This is why only a low portion of the population on Vona decide to become Myotra, it really isn't worth it, and is risky in the first place, you'd be one power outtage away from death at all times, and any damage to your gem could result in soul fracturing. Not to mention how expensive a decent sized gem is in the first place. Trust me, only crazy, egotistical, rich people want to become Myotra.
What in Dygs name is soul fracturing? So glad you asked, reader I don't have. Soul fracturing happens when a Myotras' gem is cracked or damaged. Much like if you damaged your brain. For years scientists thought the brain stored your personality, any damage to a certain part of it and you'd be acting or speaking differently. In (fictional) reality, the brain is just a control mechanism for the body, it turns intention into physical action. You also experience the world through the brain (or gem). Schizophrenia, Synesthesia, Psychosis, all caused by defects in the brain (the only exception being multiple personality disorder. You can guess what's going on there)
The same things can happen to a Myotra if it's gem is damaged. When they are bound to a gem the gem forms very fragile connections and pathways , similar to a brain, inside it. So any concussive force could damage these pathways and cause a disorder, or death.
