House Tukmyr

Shoebill - grey and green - Marshland/Swampland     The Tukmyr house rules from their impenetrable marshland fortress, surrounded by swamp on all sides, and faced with gargantuan walls. Attackers rarely breach the forts defences. Their soldiers are known for their toughness, and constitution. The stubborn rulers of this swampy kingdom do not give their secrets away easily. They produce most of the gunpowder (and to a lesser extent poisons) for the empire. They're an industrious, forward thinking people, and yet still they are deeply religious. They are the most advanced out of necessity for living in their environment. Most of their people who live outside the castle live in houses built on stilts, which mostly protects them from the deadly fauna and flora below. Pretty much everything is poisonous in the marshlands.   -----------------------------------   The Tukmyr's are known for their technological mastery afforded to them out of necessity of their homeland, a swamp. The Tukmyr house itself once lead a peasant revolt against the Mregian kingdom. For years the people of the swamp were downtrodden and occasionally robbed of their hard earned coin. They wanted proper representation, a lord to protect their land and it's people from neighbouring lords, but no such lord wanted to take on the daunting task of ruling the treacherous swamp. Instead a Kirihes in the Hokran army took up the mantle of lord, forming a new royal house: Tukmyr. At first the Hokrans were outraged at this, and went on a crusade to arrest the traitor, But Lord Tukmyr maintained a steady defence, using the swamps terrain and toxic willdlife to his advantage. after a few years, he and his peasant army won, and the Tukmyr house was created in earnest, along with the Tukmyr realm.   The Tukmyrs became rich by selling gunpowder, easily made using the swamps resources, to the other houses. Tukmyrs became known for their excellent cannons, which soon were mounted on the first tanks produced by Mregia.   House Tukmyr is rivaled with their Besseri neighbours, who have a different view of secrets. The Besseri believe in selling knowledge to the highest bidder, but Tukmyrs are more noble, keeping their weapons tech to themselves until it is required. Besseri agents often attempt to infiltrate the castle in which They keep their most advanced knowledge.

History

The Tukmyrs became rich by selling gunpowder, easily made using the swamps resources, to the other houses. Tukmyrs became known for their excellent cannons, which soon were mounted on the first tanks produced by Mregia.   House Tukmyr is rivaled with their Besseri neighbours, who have a different view of secrets. The Besseri believe in selling knowledge to the highest bidder, but Tukmyrs are more noble, keeping their weapons tech to themselves until it is required. Besseri agents often attempt to infiltrate the castle in which Tukmyr keeps their most advanced knowledge.   After the Vyhanid research facility massacre, Tukmyr and Besseri troops raced to salvage as much of the groundbreaking technology held there as possible. The facility focused on fusing man and machine, and was established to find a cure for the Princesses paralysis. Unfortunately, there wasn't much left apart from a few prosthetic limbs, complete with an interface which could translate brain impulses to movement controls. The technology that allowed a brain to be removed from the body and placed in a synthetic one was completely lost. Tukmyr and Besseri both attempted to garner what they could from the salvaged research materials they could find, and regain this astounding (yet unethical) technology.   Eventually brain cages were invented a second time, by house Tukmyr, but they had a few technical glitches that made them quite dangerous. These new brain cages eventually came to be used in Shells, also invented by Tukmyr. War machines that used a brain as the controller. The Tukmyrs couldn't keep this particular secret to themselves for long. The empress ordered more of these "Shells" to be built and put to work destroying enemies of the empire, despite warnings that the technology was unfinished, unethical, and possibly dangerous to soldiers in the field.
