History

In 351 the elves of Allavaña established an outpost at the western most tip of the peninsula When not at the outpost conducting trade the elves left it unoccupied. Soon tales of the elven ships filled with splendor; wonderous fruits, plush fabrics, and other worldly goods began to make there way off the trade routes as merchant caravans hauled their goods into the peninsula. Seeing an easy grab for good the Orcs from the villages in the Obsidian Crags began raiding the ships and caravans. In response to these raids the royal court of Allavaña dispatched a small group of elves, their leader named Salas Kelhorn, to defend and live at the outpost. A barracks, lodging, and some basic defenses were constructed to fortify the outpost.

Over the next several years the once small trade outpost grew into a small defensible city, the sole focus of which was to provide safety for the traveling merchants. As the orcs raids slowed, many of the merchants set up shop a few even rose in prominence. Together they formed a trade guild, naming it the Bayside Consortium, effectively making this the ruling body of the city. The Consortium soon became integral leaders in the all trade of the city; fostering growth and stability as they routed trade from the Wallechia to Allavaña. Inns for the caravans opened, bars for entertainment, ship repair and lumber processing markets supported the trade route. Soon this small outpost grew into a city, denizens began calling the city Sallshaven.

Seeing the port grow from an outpost to a flourishing city with the beginnings Salas petitioned the Allavaña court to withdraw. The city taking on a government and citizen ship of its own, the elven court decided their protection is no longer needed. In 366 the last of the permanent elven defense force left the city.

In 371 the Grimwalds seized control of Wallechia and started taxing the city, enforcing their new tax with soldiers from the prior conflict. The goods from Allavaña were taxed, and as such the elves slowed trade. With trade slowing the city was forced to seek new goods or means of sustaining itself. Ship yards were constructed to expanded the fishing fleet, soon larger vessels began leaving…one such ship found a pod of whales and realized the great value in harvesting the meat, fat, and oil. Eventually the city became a whaling town and the focused turned from trade to exporting.

Over time as the city turned toward ship building, whaling, fishing the population shifted toward sailors and the like. As the sailor community grew so did they need for entertainment while they were in port. This lead to gambling halls, brothels, and general depravity.

When the majority of the cities soldiers were called away in 642 toward the end of the rebellion movement to oust the Grimwalds a pirate lord named James Torbeck saw an opportunity. Nicked named Torbeard the Cunning, the pirate lord ordered his complement of 4 ships and crews to raid the city hall and take control from the Bayside Consortium. In order to ensure a peaceful transition of power Torbeard offered a choice to the leaders; either stay in power a head a new noble house and serve him or die. Of the four leaders three choose to confess loyalty; Treyuun Beech, Greggor Valeston, and Olanniea Wix and fourth tried to flee but was instantly killed. The three noble houses.
