Xarafax (Emberlord Xarafax / Lord of Ashes / Lakhullos)

The being who would become Emberlord Xarafax began life as a Callenthi child named Lakhullos, born somewhere around the year 21000 MC. His parents were true Callenthi immortals. From the available records, it appears he was a happy child who was well-loved. The romantic myth reads that the dark goddess of undeath Xarafaxi became enamoured with the youth and desired to take him as her consort. The probable reality is that the child began developing a distrust of his elders and the knowledge he suspected they were keeping from him. He was incredibly bright, a genius even by Callenthi standards, but resented the fact that certain areas of knowledge were restricted for him. Then, out of the blue, his parents were killed by mortal Callenthi, slaughtered with blades forged of Syrellium, during the era known as the War of the Immortals. From that point on, Lakhullos swore an oath of revenge against all Callenthi, that he would not rest until the race was completely wiped out. He devoted himself to the study of dark arts and planar magic, and became the most accomplished inter-planar traveller and manipulator ever known, taking the name Xarafax to signal that, where Xarafaxi is a feared Goddess of Undeath to the Callenthi, he is her male equivalent and spells the doom of the race. It also signals that this 25000 year-old dark mage considers himself to have transcended his Callenthi origins and ascended to Godhood. 3000 years after his birth, Lakhullos led an army of Callenthi and pagan humans in a war to extinguish the last immortals of the Callenthi race, those who hadn't been wiped out during the War of the Immortals. He was defeated and banished to an adjacent plane. In more recent memory, Xarafax reappeared to inflict possibly the greatest devastation the Voldrelm has ever known: the Grim Epoch. It was during this time that he summoned the beings known as Emberlings, and also possibly the collosi known as the Riffthera (although this may not have been entirely his doing). It was during this time that he gained the title Emberlord, or Lord of Ashes, due to his army of semi-sentient soldiers being comprised of the ashes of the cremated dead (Emberlings). Most scholars suspect they were constructs of some kind, although others have posited they were undead. Their true nature has never been agreed upon. Through the use of previously hidden Callenthi technology (planespheres) which had been guarded up until that point due to their dangerous nature, the Emberlord was banished again, this time to the far outer planes. It is feared he is roaming there, possibly gaining allies for his next incursion. As a being who has been alive for over 30,000 years, he is approaching the level of a demon or celestial and it is possible he may converse with them. Xarafax is rarely spoken of. He is something of a taboo subject, his name inspiring dread whenever it is mentioned.
