Hourglass

An ancient town standing at the confluence of the Kulinthi and Nardiss Rivers. Hourglass is a large town containing every conceivable type of merchant, temple, guild, whatever you can imagine. It is the largest settlement in central Farveld.   LOCATIONS:   THE WHEEL OF TIME: A well-known tavern and famous retreat for adventurers. The innkeep, Perryn Dalfynkle, has hundreds of stories about the goings-on, and adventurers, what has happened within "The Wheel".   SHRINE OF BROMMAR'S ESLA: A shrine dedicated to a heimfolk adventurer who died trying to protect the nearby village of Alden. He was a Felbrodir clan Heimfolk who died defeating an evil cult trying to bring about a re-awakening of the Emberlings. His holy symbol of Esla (he was a paladin) is enshrined here.   THE MIDRAL: Hourglass sits a short distance from the Midral, the confluence of the Nardiss and Kulinthi rivers. The roar is breathtaking and can be heard from the town. Nearby, on the western side, is the abandoned hamlet of Stronarran.

History

LEGENDS:   Pagans believe that the Midral marks the point on which the world pivots, and that beneath the raging waters is an abyss reaching to the far side of the world. One thing is certain - time does not behave normally in Hourglass. At different times of the year, the passage of time seems faster or slower.   Hourglass is an active area of planar ruptures. Mages find this a potent location for the creation of planespheres, some of considerable size. FOIA has a university here.

Architecture

Some pre-Grim Epoch buildings still stand, but most of Hourglass is edged timber, white with brown trim, typical of Farveld.
