Kig Thurat

This underground city is built into a massive cavern. Above it stretches the Great Wastes of Cioran, a supernaturally formed desert. Originally dwarven, it is now home to all manner of races. It is favored by artists and exotic races for its accepting community.

Inhabitants

The city sports a sizeable community of Drow as well as many other light-sensitive races. Because of their tendency towards the arts there are also quite a lot of Tieflings.

Ruler

The city’s mayor is Baroness Azala Grimstein, a member of the royal council and a drow. She is very sociable and well respected. Those that wish to bring harm to her are sparse and even then, they are quickly dealt with by the Hangman, a drider assassin that is in her, and the councils, employ.

Children of Ash

This nomadic tribe has taken up the task of guiding travelers through the desert to Kig Thurat.

The Brimstone Halls

This tent-city is the only stationary settlement of the children of ash. It guards the primary entrance to the underground. It is an expanse of fabric as big as an average village.

Structures

The Grand Gallery

Like most galleries the Grand Gallery has cycling exhibits. But there is also the Hall of Fame which is an extradimensional space, filled with the most remarkable pieces in the history of Kig Thurat. The first piece ever added is a statue, carved by the architect that was in charge of building Kig Thurat when it was first founded by the dwarves. The statue is a miniature version of how the city looked at its origin.

Entrances

There are 12 known entrances. All of which are round stone platforms that sink into the ground. Three of these are considered main entrances though only one if them is really used. These main entrances are the biggest, approximately 10 meters across, and all end in prominent locations around the city. The other nine range between private, single person lifts and medium sized exits in less important spots.   Since the journey through the desert is treacherous, residents that are deemed trustworthy are granted access to a teleportation circle in the main square.

Main Entrance

The primary entrance is a mosaic-decorated platform with a ring of about 25 stone chairs. It goes from the Brimstone Halls to the edge of the city, along the main road. The ride takes 45 minutes.

Discovering New Entrances

Old documentation suggests up to 20 existing elevators. There is a reward for those that find and secure an entrance. This reward ranges between 100 and 250 gold pieces depending on the size and prominence of the opening.

Districts

The Walls

Most of the populace lives in the caverns hollowed out walls. Terraces and walkways are scattered all throughout and elevators and stairs provide access to higher levels. The hallways inside connect neighborhoods, some of which link with the Ceiling. There are no shops in the Walls, only living spaces.

The Ceiling

The Ceiling is populated by those that can fly and climb. The ceiling is the smallest of the districts but has a couple of public spaces. Baroness Grimstein has her apartment in the Ceiling. Giant spiral staircases lead into the Ceiling from the Floor.

The Floor

The Floor is a grand space with many open plazas, market places and shops. It is also where the rich folk live. Townhall is on the floor, as is the library, the archives and the Grand Gallery.
