"They may have lost their magic, their levitation, their size, their strength, and a bunch of eyes, they still somehow managed to keep the arrogance!" - Unknown Alarian Cleric
Basic Information
Y'Saarg someone resemble their Beholder ancestry. They probably the least humanoid species in the galaxy. They have a central body with a single large eye in the middle, above a small toothy mouth. There are 4 tentacles on the lower half of the central body that can be used for locomotion or manipulation. On the upper half of their body there are two eye stalks.
Y'Saarg reproduce very strangely. They are asexual. When a Y'Saarg is sleeping, and they dream of them reproducing, their eyestalks will seperate from their body. These eyestalks will then slowly grow into two more Y'Saarg with some genetic randomization. The parent Y'Saarg will slowly regrow their eyestalks.
The progenitor eyes from the stalk become the central eye, and the rest of the body grows around that.
Y'Saarg feel more comfortable in cool (but not cold) tempatures.
Y'Saarg are strictly herbivorous. While they theoretically could consume meat, it would make them very sick.
Additional Information
Y'Saarg are inherently very arrogant to the point of being selfish and isolated. Most Y'Saarg put themselves above all else. Even then, most Y'Saarg view their species as superior and above all other species, and they are infamously xenophobic.
Y'Saarg are generally along the same intelligence as humans, although their aberrant ancestry means they think very differently than most other species.
Although the majority of Y'Saarg lack innate magic like Beholders, very rarely one will have latent magical ability. They can cast it from one or both of their eye stalks.
Civilization and Culture
There is no male/female, there is only one sex. Y'Saarg innately know their names upon birth. Y'Saarg names are very hard to pronounce for non-Y'Saarg, so Y'Saarg who are less xenophobic will often take a name from another language.
Y'Saarg Names:
Even though the Y'Saarg Order is crippled compared to it's former self from before the Freedom Wars, it still does exist and still has many Crystalkin slaves.
Y'Saarg view themselves as the standard of beauty. All other Y'Saarg are relatively hideous, but at least they aren't aliens.
Y'Saarg pretty much never wear clothes due to their strange anatomy and lack of sexual organs. Occasionally, they will wear hats or headgear.
Most Y'Saarg view any kind of relation with other species as really werid.
When the Larkenzi Empire was at its fullest extent of its power, they were masters of magic and technology. They made great progress in both science and the arcane, thanks to their great curiosity and intellect. With their combination of magic and science, they quickly spread across the galaxy. Eventually, being on the first space faring species, they made contact with the gods. But, they eventually got too curious. They learned about Apollyon. They began rituals and sacrifices to summon them, but the gods noticed soon. In a stroke of fear, they quickly smited the Larkenzi off the face of the universe. Maybe trying to summon a god of chaos isn’t the best idea, huh Larkenzi?
But, the rituals had attracted some attention. Some remaining servants of Apollyon were awakened. However, not of them were as loyal. Several beholders, fearing retaliation from the gods, went to this little segment of the universe. For their hubris, they were instead cursed by the gods and left in a weakened form. They lost vast amounts of their magic and intellect and were left in a relatively crippled body. Their descendants became the Y’Saarg Order. They enslaved the primitive inhabitants of Sarnoth, the planet they were stuck on. Through selective breeding the slaves turned into the current Crystalkin. As time went on and they spread throughout the galaxy, they eventually enslaved many other races, which eventually led to their downfall in the Freedom Wars.
Pretty much no one likes the Y'Saarg because of the Y'Saarg Order enslaving pretty much everyone for a while. And the Vuulon hate the Y'Saarg because they hate everybody that isn't Y'Saarg.
