That Girl From Wayside
That Girl From Wayside is a classic song, sung in taverns all across the Cennti Empire, it tells the tale of a young man who meets a wild girl in the city of Wayside . They fall in love and plan to marry, but the man is drafted and sent off to war. He fights with courage, only to learn upon returning that the girl, presuming him dead, married another man. There have been multiple versions of the song, depending on the century and where it was being sung.
I once met a girl in good old Wayside
A perfect example of Valdorian pride
With her blood red hair, boy she was quite a fright
She said “You’re gonna be my man for tonight”
We drinked and we danced and we laughed through the day
She showed me her love in peculiar ways
We’d lie on our backs and look up at the star
I’d look at two beauties, one near and one far
We’d thought it’d last forever but those days are gone
I had to pack up and leave before long
In the name of the Emperor, for the sake of the land
I had to leave by my country's command
I fought and I bled and I saw brothers die
But I raised myself high and let out a battlecry
But when I got home, boy those tears in me eye
She thought I was dead and married another guy
So here I sit, I sing and I weep
To drown my sorrows, I fight and I drink
You may look at me and see battlescars
But the one that hurts most is the one in my heart
I once met a girl in good old Wayside
A perfect example of Valdorian pride
With her blood red hair, boy she was quite a fright
She said “You’re gonna be my man for tonight”
