Lord General

Lord General is the supreme commander of an entire world's ground forces, this is the highest rank achievable by a member of the army.

Duties

The duty of the Lord General is to give commands to the generals and commanders beneath him, they may give as much freedom to those beneath them as they see fit.

Benefits

Having near absolute control over the armed forces of an entire world does come with a certain amount of power and influence.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Lord General may be dismissed by the Emperor without reason whenever they desire, though this is seldom done as it brings a certain amount of backlash along with it. The congress of the world the Lord General represents may dismiss him if over two thirds vote in favor of his dismissal.

History

The OuterWorld Army Initiative of 225 AU required that any world colonized by the Empire had to muster soldiers during a time of war. The amount of soldiers was dependent on the population and strategic value of the world.

Cultural Significance

How a Lord General is chosen depends on the culture of the world they are from. On some worlds like Eot or Gelgoreg, it is a political appointment, meaning the Lord General is usually a third son or nephew of some powerful lord. On other worlds, usually those more threatened by invasion, the Lord General is usually a veteran of great renown from some old war.

Notable Holders

Decius Neron was a commander during the First Civil War(510-522), most notable for his bravery during the Battle of Yeshi in the first year of the war, and for commanding the Third Army of Eot during the invasion of Gelgoreg in 515. After Gelgoreg was taken Decius was made Lord General of the world and oversaw its military occupation. He later went on to become Emperor from 525 to 538.
Vaius Marcus was Lord General of Eot during the First Civil War, and commanded the First Army of Eot during the invasion of Gelgoreg. He was famous for his brutal tactics and warhawk attitude, and was almost elected Emperor by the new government after the war, but was considered too bloodthirsty and Decius was chosen instead.

Source of Authority

A Lord General derives his authority from the Congress that rules his world, and the Emperor himself.

The rank of Lord General is kept by a person they either die, retire, or are deemed unfit by the Emperor or their World Congress
