The Red Federation
The Red Federation, formerly the Kingdom of Zu'ul, is a country in the south of Vitronia. It is an oligarchy ruled by five of six former great houses of Zu'ul. The head of the six houses, the house Zu'ul, was overthrown in response to a horrific famine which swept through the southern Kingdom. The King's eccentric lifestyle was blamed for the suffering of the people, and thus there has been a cultural backlash against ideas of individualism, free thought, and non-conformity.
Within the Red Federation there is currently a inquisition led by the house of green, Yata. The house of green was the counterbalance to the former king Zu'ul, which represented the house of red. Yata emphasized conformity. The Country was renamed the Red Federation due to the red leaves which adorn the local flora. They are red all year long and have a beautiful bold rose-like color. The people of the Red Federation, once bold an brave like the leaves, have changed. They fear what they don't know, and are constantly trying to fit in as much as possible. Lest the inquisition come to their door to root out non-conformity.
However, there are still pockets of hope for the countries former bravado. Zu'ul bards are known for their eccentricity and uniqueness. Zu'ul fighters are brave and headstrong. Zu'ul scholars are free thinkers who were renowned for their groundbreaking research. In exile they continue to uphold the old ways of their country with pride.
The Red Federation plays an important economic role in the continent of Vitronia. It is the main source of food for the land, which is why the famine was particularly devastating. Grain shipments had continued under the Kings leadership, allegedly prioritizing the short term benefit of the continued influx of money to the lives of his people. At the famines peak the people rebelled in an effort to feed themselves. Yata led this rebellion and colored it in a way which led to his rise to power. After his rise to power Yata stopped the grain shipments abroad, which prompted a military response from the northern nation of Sahar which marched south in response.
The war that ensued was bloody and harsh. It was fought along the road to the east of the city of Mondale and to the west of the ruins of Divisia. (Called the war plains) The two nations have never fully reconciled and continue to hate one another from afar. However, during the war the famine suddenly stopped, and the grain shipments began again, bringing the war to a close. Two hero's arose from the war. In Sahar the Black Bow Leonora, and in the Red Federation the Crimson Ghost, Pa'Olo.
Part of the Red Federation is inaccessible. In the east there is the Forest of the Red Mist. It is a highly dense portion of the southern Vitronian continent which is filled with danger and dense red mist. Within the forest is the Red Mist Hamlet. The Hamlet is a town filled with refugees from the Red Federation's inquisition. They are outcasts, eccentrics, those who were discriminated against, and sometimes criminals. Those who travel to the Red Mist Hamlet must either be guided by a smuggler, or by someone who has lived there and made the journey themselves.
