Spellbreaker Syndrome

The Spellbreaker program run by the Arruce has come across some unforeseen consequences. In rare cases a Spellbreaker Candidates psyche breaks beyond the scope of what the programs aims to produce. The afflicted will progress beyond the last stage of corruption associated with a typical Spellbreaker. Their bones will start to grow in unusual ways, elongating to the point that they pierce the skin. The bone growths range is shape and size and are often used as a weapon against anyone in the vicinity during bouts of rage. 
The creatures these people become are extremely dangerous and will not discern friend from foe. When someone progresses to this point, they are dealt with swiftly, though some have been successfully imprisoned. Those that remain in captivity by the Arruce have seen use as a weapon of war released into key locations to wreak havoc and lower morale before the regular army advances.

Causes

Spellbreaker Syndrome is only contracted in rare cases during the tortuous process of becoming a Spellbreaker. It is not known if it is one of the peculiar concoctions imbibed or due to some of the arduous physical trainings. Some believe only those who are weak willed or of weak constitution are affected.

Symptoms

-Blackened veins and lips -Whites of the eyes turns grey -Extreme pain tolerance -Rage -Insanity -Weight loss -Bone growths -Enhanced speed and strength -Loss of coherent speech -Light sensitivity

Treatment

There are no treatments known as of yet, though studies are underway. The Arruce are testing methods of how to reduce the chances of someone progressing to this stage. These tests are typically conducted on prisoner's of war taken by a Spellbreaker regiment.

Cultural Reception

The existence of this affliction has been kept from the common people as it would hurt the approval of the Spellbreaker program and the war. However, there have been a few cases of an afflicted escaping. Sightings have been made by the Arruce civilians of these creatures and folktales are starting to spread of monsters, part spider-part human, or part demons hunting down any who stay out past curfew.
