Spice of Alham

The Spice of Alham, sometimes referred to simply as "Spice" or "Mezaraq"(Though Mezaraq is only refers to a certain type of refined Purple Sand Rose), is a drug created from the petals and seeds of the Sand Rose. There are many varieties depending on the color of the plant. There is red, yellow, pink and purple flowers and each has its own effects. But the most dangerous is the purple Mezaraq. It is the most addictive, yet it is impossible to overdose on the Purple Mezaraq. The major symptom of Mezaraq addiction is that the eyes of the user will turn and glow with a dull blue. Many of the Alsafari bare these blue eyes. If one of the Alsafari were to leave the Harq'nar, they would die from Mezaraq Withdrawl.
All the colours have healing properties but the differing colours have other properties The red flowers are used for brewing love and luck potions. The yellow flowers are sometimes used in poisons, but are mostly used for fertility potions. Pink flowers are similar to the red flowers but typically produce more extreme effects than the red. Purple flowers are so rare that royalty and the wealthy are the only ones who can afford them. The purple flowers are used in temple rituals as incense, or as dyes for clothing. If processed properly the purple and pink flowers create a hallucinogenic effect similar to LSD. But if prepared in the right way, the Purple Sand Rose will serve as a mind enhancing drug, used by warriors and assassins. Some warlords will use the Mezaraq to control concubines and their guards as if they go for a week with out the spice, they will die.
