The Black Tower
Purpose / Function
Seat of power of Esmerelda Augustina.
Sensory & Appearance
Even in the height of the Ibralese summer, the castle is cool. it feels as though the walls radiate a subtle call to sleep.
As people enter the temple itself, a feeling of relief washes over them, there has been no arcane explanation for it, and is one of the many mysteries of the Black Tower.
Denizens
Few people outside of the Augustina family or the high court of Ibral dare stay in the castle for long. There are a variety of serfs and servants who serve the high court, their quarters are well away from the tower itself.
Alterations
Began as a single tower made of pitch-black stone attached to a temple of the same stone, has grown to encompass the entire hill it sits on. Walls went up in the second era, though no time frame was given for when or why.
History
Originally made in the second era, much of the base seems to be made from an antiquated temple.
The former temple regions depict a blood-soaked female saint fighting the darkness, wielding a blazing sword of light. Not much is known about the temple's penitents, the church being one of the few relics to have survived the second era.
Despite the massive walls that ring the citadel, it has never been put to the test in a siege in recent memory. The citadel stands at the apex overlooking Hoxal and none have attacked the heart of Ibral.
