Ibral

The Kingdom of Ibral All hail Her Majesty Eternal Esmerelda Augustina, Dominatrix Noctem Eternum, Lady Vampiress of the Black Tower, Dreadsinger of ancient Erdemir   The Kingdom of Ibral is run by a clan of vampires whose origins are shrouded in mystery intentionally. From minor nobles to the queen herself, they are almost exclusively vampires. They induct new nobility as they need and as they expand, however the exact number that they are is unknown.   The mortal populace of Ibral is hard lived, struggling under a feudal system wherein they themselves are the cattle and the serf combined. This does not mean that they are constantly terrified for their lives. most live completely normal lives, only giving blood when they are required to by law. In fact, many of them live considerably more comfortable lives than their compatriots in other nations. They are well fed and well cared for, as the only sustenance that their masters need is them, and in killing them a nobleman would lose standing.   There is an intricate rule of law defining interactions between noblemen and peasants, known as Lex ec lux, or the law of light. It gives both permissions to seek vengeance against the other, though often the death of a peasant only allows for a weregild, but the death of a nobleman may make a village subject to decimation   Constant border wars are present in the southern reaches of the empire. Young noble vampires of Ibral may spend a decade or two bloodying themselves, and others, for a chance to improve their family's station at court in the north.   Nobles that join the campaigns to the south are put in command positions; owing to their abilities they tend to fight in the melee. They are some of the fiercest and most terrifying shock troops that a battlefield will see. However, at the tender ages that junior officers tend to be, they are still susceptible to sunlight and so their effectiveness is limited. Enemy forces are always wary of nighttime raids though, for these tend to be their primary source of fresh blood.   Control of the inland sea is paramount for most of the conflicts in the southern region and hosts surprisingly large naval forces from all sides. It is within this context that Ibral has refined its naval fleet and raised itself to be a primary naval power. Those that need equipment for kitting a ship will find no better place than an Ibralese port.   A nobleman's status is based on the population under his control, so it does no good to spend lives on pointless wars. Wars for expansion are carefully calculated, but once begun, reckless and fierce.   Ibralese medicine is one of the most advanced, focused on sustaining life for the subjects of Ibral long enough for them to return to health, for if they are not of sufficient health, they cannot provide blood.

Public Agenda

Expansionist empire. They do not countenance wanton destruction and are often revered once they take control of the populace as they are kinder to their subjects than other empires

Military

There are several different types of forces in the Ibralese Military   Royal Legions The royal legions have regiments rotated through to ensure readiness, and two types of mercenary groups. The term legion is restricted to the troops loyal only to the emperor or empress The most notable case of rebellion was the claim of The Cervantes’ family to emperorship in the early second age and the elevation of The Crimson legion. This Legion was brought to its knees at the hands of the combined forces of Harbinger Legion and Scythian Blood Legion. The Cervantes family was put to the death by means of Solar Immolation, and the Legion faced decimation before being folded into the remaining forces of the Black Tower.   Patron Mercenary Companies The patrons companies act as hands on experience for the household guard, as well as local support for legion actions. They take a name referring to their patron family's heraldry, these patron mercenary companies function as an extension of a noble families personal guard. There exists two limitations on them: They are withheld the privilege of calling themselves a legion, and that of being armed with mirrored or silvered arms and armour.   Mercenary Corps Mercenary corps are common hired footsoldiers, typically from other nations who serve as effective cannon fodder. Of note is, because they are not Ibralese, they are not subject to Lex ec Lux, and may be disposed of without recompense by the nobleman who controls them. They are often still subjected to the blood tax, especially in cases of emergency, though most companies retain strict contracts with regards to code of conduct.
