The Da'

The Da' are a warlike people, who live in the far southeast of Northern Vi'Dan in a place known as the Da' Lands. The Da' lands are rough and rugged in the south where they are fronted by the mountains and the people here exhibit the most stereotypical Da' attitudes: distrustful of outsiders, prioritising strength, fierce independence etc. Those who live in the north and west, as well as along the coast are much more amiable, with the only major city, Da'Or being located here. This may be due to their usual contact with outside traders and states such as the Kingdom of Sen and the Merchant State of No Kil. However, it can be noted that the Da' are frequently behind on technological development when compared to the other Northern States, and desperately so compared to the southern states, which are only a few hundred miles away. This is often attributed to the rather sinister magic of Animomancy, which the Da' are naturally sensitive to. Animomancy, otherwise known as 'Mind-Magic' can be used to control and alter the minds, perceptions and beliefs of other people and Animomages are considered some of the most dangerous people in the world. The frequent use of this magic means that, according to some scholars, advanced technology and sophisticated societies are mostly likely impossible for the Da' to achieve. The Da' use amber as a conduit for magical energy and it is used as jewelry even in isolated Da' communities that are ignorant of the powers of Animomancy.
